From an old post of mine:
I just did this job on a friends HMMWV and there's no good way to push the fuel pump actuator pin back up into the block without removing the mounting plate. The gaskets are readily available and fit 1955 thru 1995 GM engines and only cost a few bucks so bite the...
To answer your opening question, yes, there is a book that tells you most of this. It's called a TM 9 2320-280-10 techincal manual. Interesting reading, more people should try it!
I've owned my HMMWV for almost 20 years now and have used my STE/ICE once, to see if it worked. The unit is convenient for the auto mechanic that knows little about electronics, or the beginning service member tossed into the 91B category, which is most of them as we see demonstrated on this...
HMMWV, Even though this is HMMWV electrical related you'll find better responses if you post in the HMMWV forum. There are a couple of types of this shift indicator out there but they're really hard to find. The TH400 ones are all over. I've replaced the LEDs in some and replaced the LED in...
This should be moved to the HMMWV Forum.
The switch and linkage AM General used came off of the M151 where it was also a crappy design. The incandescent lamps draw so much current that over time the switch contacts arc away leaving you without brake lights with everything else working. Sound...
To avoid that exact problem I stuck an aquarium airstone in the end of the vent line where it enters the filter cannister. That way it can breath but no water can get in.
There are hardware grades above 8 but they're not commonly available and you'll have to search for them. 99% of SAE hardware automotive applications are grade 5 (3 lines on the head) and there are times when you want to use grade 5 over grade 8 because even though they're stronger in breaking...
There were 2 series of 60 amp alternators made by Prestolite/Leece-Neville that are now made and supported by Southern Automotive. The early style is the AMA5102 that has three round pins on the regulator board and the later style AMA5104 has 4 blade connectors on it's board.
This is going to sound stupid but they do make AC LED lamps that will accept either polarity to turn on.

That POS turn signal switch is the most fragile piece of equipment on the HMMWV! Whenever I go to a show where the truck is open for inspection it's the first thing kids grab and yank around. Why they kept using it is beyond me.
There are lots of great options out there for LED headlights across the price range. Personally I run Trucklite 27270Cs and find their broad, even lighting a pleasure to drive with.
Here in California you can get an offroad registration title and sticker but these things weren't meant to be used on the street and without headlights, brake lights, and turn signals there's probably not much chance of a true DMV title in it's future. The offroad title does have the advantage...
SF-3512 antenna by Shakespeare goes from 30 - 512 mhz.
also known as the Harris RF-390.
You can find the 3183 bases but the masts are just not out there.
The M116A3's that were used to make the M101A3 trailers for behind the HMMWV should have wheel well spacing wide enough to drive the Mules onto without going over the hump. Those that were converted from M101A2's will still have the narrower wheel well spacing.
