On its face, that statement might seem absurd, but it's really not. I took a friend for a short ride in my 5-ton and he commented "It's amazing how many people just look right through you or aren't looking at the road at all."
He was referring to the faces of drivers in oncoming cars, that he...
Damn, that whole vid was fascinating. The size of those snatch blocks...phew.
I've walked around down inside the dry docks holding submarines that I was assigned to, and it's impressive. This was equally impressive. Those marines were working hard. Much respect.
@Privatewrench I made the suggestion because I just went through the exact same thing. ;)
After replacing all of the belts and hoses that the hose material had compressed somewhat and most of my hose clamps had loosened up allowing some drips. I thought it was oil until I smelled it.
@Brutacus @US6x4 Everything's greased and tight. The noise is random, not tied to bumps in the road. My exhaust system is crap though.
The muffler is intact but the output flange is rusted off. I've got the J-pipe lashed in place up against the muffler. The J-pipe catches 90% of the exhaust...
Ok, I took the truck out again and I can replicate the noise.
It's definitely not the bumper shackles banging. It actually sounds like more of a high pitched "chuff."
Question: If your exhaust system is crappy, can a diesel back-fart through the exhaust the same way gasoline engines can?
These...
Actually, I just checked the poppet and air line connections recently when I replaced the transfer case. But I'll check it again, especially since you posted such a convenient way to get at it. :)
I'll try to get the number off the end of the frame today to close out this conversation.
Assuming the truck kept the original transmission and transfer case, what model transfer case do I have?
It has the round knob and does not have the lighted indicator.
The truck was also originally...
Oh, while we're on the topic of "loose stuff" I found this cable not attached to anything while inspecting for noise makers.
The tag is smashed and unreadable. The cable seems bolted to the engine, just beneath the lower radiator hose. (Passenger side)
It would reach the generator but the...
@TheQuaker dude, I'm just paranoid. I'll do anything to avoid breaking down on the roadside.
I have towing insurance but I don't want to live down the embarrassment. I also want to be a responsible owner and not hurt anyone.
Although I found it humorous, I didn't think it was very wise to leave notes like that on people's Jeeps or trucks. I think it's a good way to invite someone to vandalize your MV.
Some 5-ton driver on FB said that he leaves notes on Jeepers and F-250s that says:
"I parked next to you so that your truck could nurse off of mine and grow up big and strong."
In the tech manual, it lists the NSN for the 6.2 and 6.5 thermostat as well as a P/N (part number) for each.
I discovered that the part number is the actual AC Delco (OEM) part number and was able to order the thermostat on Amazon for $11.00 Free, next-day delivery.
Mine arrive in an AC Delco...
Ever since I bought my truck, I've generally stuck to a "test track" in my neighborhood while I get caught up on maintenance and generally shake the bugs out.
I have taken a few trips into town to dump yard waste and buy the winter's pellet supply.
A couple days ago, I took a longer drive that...
