    Our New Departmental MRAP

Typically they would be used as rolling cover during a high-risk search warrant (where the suspect is known to be armed, etc..), and for emergency evacuation under fire for wounded officers & civilians. In an active shooter situation, especially one involving a school (Columbine, VA-Tech...

    Our New Departmental MRAP

Price is the main sticking point with commercial armored trucks; for nearly the same cost, you could have a purpose-built armored truck built instead. Used commercial armored trucks are pretty pricey as well, and are mostly used up.

What's your source for this statistic?

    Our New Departmental MRAP

Nice sarcastic come-back, and NO, I don't work SWAT. I'm no badass, I just do my job because it's what I do...I've never been a medal-chaser. I've served more than my share of search warrants & been shot at & been in too many dangerous situations in more than my 20 years of LE experience. I...

    Our New Departmental MRAP

Too true. As I stated above, I only have a few years left before retiring, and I fear for the younger officers who currently & will have to face escalating threats in the coming years. Society is becoming more violent, and more reckless. The chances of these vehicles being misused are pretty...

    Our New Departmental MRAP

All too true, thank you for your service as well. We are in fact encountering many homemade IEDs & EFPs, as well as heavier weaponry, and the Mexican cartels are becoming much more active & prevalent throughout nearly every state.

    Our New Departmental MRAP

I wish I lived in your world...I guess you've never been shot at nor had dynamite thrown at you. Just because you don't hear/see it reported on the evening news doesn't mean that it's not happening. It DOES happen in fact, and getting shot at is becoming a daily occurrence. LEOs DO have a...

    New here...already in deep

Isuzu NPR cabover medium-duty trucks used a 19.5-inch steel one-piece wheel that had the 6-lug Budd pattern; 19.5 radials are cheap and will lower the profile of the trailer, and it's easier to find tire shops to work on a 19.5-in radial than the lock ring tube tires already on it. Check...

What does the < symbol on the sides of military vehicles mean?

In Desert Storm, we painted them on our tanks & armored vehicles with the point facing forward as a method of IFF; our tank company used the forward-facing point (sideways "V" to look like < or >...hmmm, now I've got to figure out a way to add a tank into an HTML comment markup). I don't...

Brand New MRAPS Being Scrapped - A Sad Day

That's a shame, but it's our reality. After all, these days Perception Is Reality. Personally I have no qualms about MRAPS in civilian ownership...from a market forces perspective, I'd bet that they would command pretty high prices, high enough to make them collectible and very unlikely to be...

    military earthmoving equipment owners?

Here's my 1942 Caterpillar D4-5T bulldozer (hydraulic, adjustable angle blade), which began life with the US Army. You can still see the original OD paint underneath the peeling Cat yellow coat. It runs & works, but needs a full service and adjustments. It has a pull-start pony motor, which...

    custom trailer build thread

Homemade trailer using various bits of FMV scraps. About to have the rear suspension removed & install a new very heavy duty walking-beam suspension & dually 17.5" wheels/tires using military walking beam, air-over-hydraulic brakes, ramps controlled by electric actuators.

    Air Pack Bad??/Time for rebuild?

If the upper seal inside the air slave housing is bad, it will let air bypass out of the vent in the engine compartment (next to the air cleaner)...find which one is venting air pressure and trace it back to its source to find the problem.
