Thank you clinto for the awesome response. I believe you have hit the nail on the head about the hobby in general. Part of my movement into the Military Vehicle hobby comes from serving in the Army Transportation world but I would say more from being into muscle cars. My dad has always been into...
Well I don't believe there are many of us on here that collect military vehicles because we "need" them (other then to satisfy the OD bug). As for the humvee, what is the big difference between someone owning a military humvee verse a H1 hummer? My concern is preserving history and from what I...
Where you picking the other one up from? If you need any help while on 79 or near Dover just let me know. I'm located just before the ballpark across from the dollar store. Worse case scenario could you unhook the CTIS at the wheels and put a cap on the line then air them up with a...
From what I remember is that the governor is electronic in the transmission and it was never reset to the army standards after the rebuild. I also recall a soldier trying to bypass the governor and he ended up frying the tranny.
I'm with you wreckerman. My unit was a M915 unit and the trucks we got back from rebuild would run 85mph. I believe they were the A3s. Commercial guys were mad when we topped out at 63 but they were even more pissed when we got the rebuild trucks and were passing them.
What is the future of certain parts of our Military Vehicle hobby? What I'm asking is are there certain types of vehicles that are going to fade away and never been seen again because they are unavailable to us as collectors? Currently our hobby expands across all aspects of Military vehicles...
I'm starting this in the Politics Related to the MV Hobby since there are many opinions on what is appropiate for Military surplus equipment and this directly affects our hobby. Please keep this clean and polite. I've picked up that there are many different view points on what LEO should be...
The big worry from many people is that most of the contracts between the states and the government clearly state that the equipment must have a current purpose and must be used as part of their "war on drugs". I know my state clearly stated that military equipment could not me acquired for a...
The broken back was from the gunner and the other limbs were arms and I believe a leg from the driver and TC from their limbs flopping around during the rollover. That's why securing the seatbelts tightly and rollover trainers are important.
I'm keeping my feelings about this out and just giving advice on the vehicle.
Just to add on to this part, speed is not your friend in these. In 08 our convoy speed was limited to 35mph due to rollovers. One example of a roll over was a unit traveling at 50-55mph and a small (and I mean...
Don't forget about the other threads on here with examples of how private owners with military vehicles have come to the call of their fellow neighbors in times of disaster like the floods in Colorado just recently.
