Been a couple of years since I owned one and local sheriff decided to sell their 2 (had just been sitting) so I bought both. Here’s one of them. This one is a bit of an electrical dumpster fire but we’ll get it sorted. going to keep one stock and the other...probably customize it a bit.
The broken half shaft...probably operator error. No BTM or just being stupid But could be indicative of other things wrong. These things can take a beating but rest assured there is always “something else” to fix. That’s part of the fun IMO. I have 2 of these and one of them decided to leave...
Rear legs of the roll cage. Lots of pics on folks that have added roll cages to m998’s on the customization side. If your going to be putting you 998 thru some serious stuff it’s not a bad idea. The stock 998...not so good on rolling over...B and C pillars aren’t exactly strong for that kind...
Money ahead on that one then...replacing half shaft is way less than $1,200. All things being equal of course. if you do get it and decide not to mess with the slant back...I am VERY interested in buying that complete kit.
Yup, you’ll need a new C pillar for the slant back and man am I jealous! New A pillar as well...but if you did the deuce work you can probably adapt something on the windshield.
Already started looking again and the good news...I gave the buyer this site to go to for good advice. I did a pretty hefty restoration of my first rig. Lessons learned will make the second much smoother. I appreciate all the guys here who are willing to help new owners of these rigs. Quite...
I’ve gotten lazy with modern trucks...shifting from rev to D while not fully stopped, flipping It in drive a little carelessly etc. when that spills over to my MV I get a “clunk” but properly operating i don’t get much of it. Is It noticeably different than my daily driver truck? Yup but...
Your grinding issue:
TM 9-2320-280-10. Paragraph 2-11
Vehicle must be stopped, engine off, and transmission shift lever placed in “N” (Neutral), before transfer case can be shifted. Failure to do this will result in damage to drivetrain.
12339397-1. HPG sells them. That hole looks pretty messed up. I doubt a new grommet will hold (it just expands as the nut is tightened) and looks like it will pop out again. I had the same problem. You can either try to round the hole and put in a nutsert or what I did...just drilled handrail...
It's Rapco Forrest green and black but in a PPG paint with a matte clear. There are so many body dings and stuff that I just didn't want to fix and anything glossy would have looked pretty rough. Once you start doing the body work there is no end so I fixed the really bad stuff and went with it.
