As far as I know, GM requested it. It was installed by GM. Eaton didn't magically have one that fit. Like any other manufacturer, GM didn't make every single part. It was likely made to their specs.
We are splitting hairs here. That's like blaming the gasoline company for the square body tank...
That was satire, I'm guessing you didn't get it. Gov lockers are notorious for expoloding in incredible fashion. It's a design issue so GM was likely the cause but not rebuilt that way, built that way.
I'm just not convinced that it was an error in rebuilding, matter of fact, look at the pics...
I've sure had my shares of SM420s, SM465s and T18s. I've heard a lot of folks describe the shifting of an SM465 and buttery was never a word used. I have an NV4500 in the garage and I can say with certainty that between my NV and every SM I've ever owned, in or out of the truck, no SM shifted...
If you have the tall adapter, you can use the factory M1010 crossmamber. If you have the short adapter, you could use the new crossmember pictured. I think I have both adapters. I've got a mean stash of 700R4/241 stuff I've been saving for my ambulance. Ambulance is sold so now contemplating...
It could have been incorrectly done by GM. The gov lock doesn't have the nickname gov bomb for nothing. I somewhat recently had one go off in a 14 bolt just trying to get out of the back yard.
If the original poster wants to redo it, or at least inspect if for rebuild, that's his choice.
Yeah, I've done the swap a few times. Wish I had the parts I took out, I'd at a little boot and swap you. I'm one locker short here.
Oddly, I don't see the same issues you do. I have an SM465 in my truck. Have an NV4500 on the shelf waiting to go in. Hope it works out.
I'll have to beg to differ on that. I've done the swap (opposite direction) quite a few times moving the Locker from the single wheel 14 bolt to a c&c dually 14 bolt. Switching from a gov lock to open requires a carrier change, not so changing from spiders to a Detroit Locker. PN is 225S10, you...
Let me add this for future reference and newer members. If you own an M1010, there is a relay activated when the right switch is left in service drive. This means if you bypass the switch, you will have parasitic drain. I don't recall the function of the specific relay. If the switch is...
They disassembe much like your blazer did. Remove outer nut, lock ring and inner nut and everything comes apart. Now, if the outer bearing is seized to the spindle, that's a whole new can of works.
Those are 6TL Batts. OP was looking for AGM batteries. I think those are 6TMF Batts. OD Iron ran 4 Napa AGM Batts in his CUCV. His were clones to Optimas. I've had the same 2 optima batteries in my SECM for about 8 years.
In the day, a sling truck could tow about anything as long as you had a length of 4x4.
This will be a great recovery truck as well as a yard Truck. The telescopic boom is great for pulling engines. For small sling trucks, I favored a 480. Split booms slung to the sides gave you some incredible...
