Not sure about CA, but in Louisiana, I use State Farm with a "classic vehicle" policy. I'm restricted to club/parade/non-daily use, but it's reasonable, I have towing/roadside and no restrictions on storage.

Without seeing it, just spitballing, it sounds like your check valve got stuck and in the process of disconnecting/reconnecting the lines it released. That would be the first thing I checked. Good luck!
