As a final update, I did all the glow plugs and the GP card (replaced with one from Antenna Climber). Cleaned up a few things and did some other maintenance. Truck has been sitting for 3 days and although it was 45 in my garage (kinda warm), she turned over within a second of turning the key...
Hey Marcus,
Thank you for that video about the crimping. For years I have been doing it haphazardly (and wrong) and have had several crimps fail. Now I know why. I even had the proper tool, but never used it, alway went to the cheap one. Doing it the right way was easy enough and makes for...
Thanks Marcus and Rick. Pulled all the plugs. All but one came out willingly, one was a little swollen. But, with a gentle session of tugging and slight wiggling, she came out after a minute or so. 2 read around 24.4 ohms, 1 read around 9.5 and 5 were dead, no continuity at all. I think I...
It was 26 yesterday morning and I couldn't roll my girl over (my M1009 guys, my M1009). Since the temps have dropped lately, she has been reluctant to start without excessive cranking, but she started. Not yesterday. Once she was warmed up, it is first turn of the key and BAM, she is running...
Matt,
And I mean this respectfully - Over the years I have had a decent amount of failures right out of the box and that includes MILSPEC items that were fully inspected and sealed prior to shipping. Crap happens my friend. And, if you think a name on a box guarantees a working part, first...
OK, went to NAPA, picked up my three parts (ES2026R, ES2027L for the tie rod ends and 2691105 for the sleeve). The tie rods come with a new grease fitting, cotter pin and castle nut. I pre-assembled everything and glad I did. The sleeve was defective from the manufacturer and would not go...
RGR all Rick and thanks for everyones input. I value it all.
I checked with NAPA today and they have the parts in stock and cheaper than everyone else, so I'll be stopping by after work tomorrow and picking up what I need. Like Rick said, there is very little, if any difference these days...
Matt,
Thanks for that info. And while I can agree that most of the stuff is not made like it used to be, I have used Duralast for several different repairs with few premature failures. And while they may not be the best, the lifetime warranty seems to be worth it, especially if a part does...
I am hoping replacing these pieces will cure some of the wandering or play in the steering. It's not too bad, but one must pay attention when the lanes get skinny and there is a lot of traffic.
OK, did my semi-annual greasing and lube under my M1009, getting her ready for winter. Went to grease up the drag link and noticed it moved quite easily (like lots of play in it). I squeezed some grease into the zerk nearest the steering box and a bunch of water squeezed out before I saw any...
Depending on cost I would be interested in a system for my 09. 3" with a crossover should work and scavenge very well. A little ram air system for the intake and maybe it will breath a little bit more power into that ol' 6.2 !
RGR Rick, thanks. But I also need to bring the 2003 seats up between 2 to 3". Those seat tracks sit lower than the stock ones do and there are no risers attached to the 2003's like the stocks one have (2003's have seat tracks only). I am wondering if i secured the 2x3" flat bar to the seat...
Yup, I agree and that's great advice I did this a few weeks ago. The counter guy thought I was a bit crazy (hey, i was driving a camo painted truck, so that didn't help), but the manager said it was fine. Three belts later I got the one that did what I needed.
OK, I just need to do something for a bit more comfort while driving in the 09. I have the opportunity to pick up a pair of decent condition 2003 Silveraldo manual bucket seats (the console doesn't come with them). I have sat in them many times and they are way more comfortable than the stock...
I've had that happen too. I found out that you have to get the smallest belt available and it will be really tough to install (but it does go on). When you adjust it for the first time, it will only move about 1/3 up in the adjustment slot. That will give you plenty of room for future...
Hey Rick, That number goes to a Blower Motor Relay at NAPA. Is that the correct part number? When I did a search, it came up AR 461 for the Starter Relay? I try to follow your advice, so I am just making sure before I go purchase a backup relay.
I got the auto zone unit and it fit great and was a good price too. I did this change out and although I am a bit of an amateur I managed to document most of the process here: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?166745-Hydraulic-Brake-Booster-Change-Out&highlight=
Good luck.
