    M35A2 Fuel Tank

He has the tank. He thinks he has the pump at his other place. The tank was damaged and repaired. Detailed pics of the repairs below. $400 picked up in Midland or somewhere en route, timeline mid to late October. I'll PM you...

New to hmmwv's, trying to figure things out to get the right one

My opinion- GP's blowby assessment doesn't yield any useful data. Picture of my truck, just because -

Registration in TX and the 10k gross weight limit

My best guess says it'll be luck of the draw depending on who is behind the counter. My opinion is that your chances improve if the titling documents you are presenting are an actual title and not an SF97. My last firsthand experience with TX was in 2013 so this is mostly speculation.

    M35A2 Fuel Tank

I have a buddy in socorro NM that may have one. I have a trip planned there , and then subsequent trips between Ft Riley KS and Midland TX so handoff may be possible. I'll text him now and update you. @RGS20inophir

    Charging the batteries......

If it's critical, buy Hawkers. If it's not critical, the cheap Walmart RV and marine batteries work just fine and will last a few years. This is probably the least cost per start/use. My trucks are toys. I have several and own heavy jumper cables. The odds that at least one will start and...

Title or SF97 Form for HMMWV

This varies greatly by state. What's relevant to IN is irrelevant anywhere else. Some places want a BOS in addition to a title (NM). Some places won't accept GP's reassignment letters (OK). Some places won't accept an SF97 at all (Tucson). And some places tell you that no military vehicles are...

    Towing an M1009 Blazer

I advocate flat towing or trailering it. Trailering is the preferred option if tires or bearings are suspect. If flat towing, pull the driveshafts- it's quick and easy and removes another source of badness.

    No brakes

Yeah, most likely leaking into the airpack.

    How old is too old

I'd replace all 6 with 395 XZLs. And carry two jacks and cribbing as you wont get enough travel from just one. And a breaker bar and cheater pipe as you can't trust anything else to break them loose. By all means, carry the electric impact to spin them once you've broken them loose, and to put...

    How old is too old

I second the recommendation to switch to 395's. MVTs if running primarily on road, XZLs if not. I'm not as enthusiastic about replacing steer tires as opposed to replacing all tires. I've had multiple blowouts at speed. The steer tire blowouts weren't the worse of them. None of them were...

    Air Brakes

When it works, it makes a fine tire minder if nothing else. Even if you don't use the traction related pressure drops, it still checks tire pressure and makes sure they're all at pressure upon startup. When it doesn't work, it destroys your tires without warning. I've had it on a several...

    Dot5 or DOT 3/4/5.1

A note on color - new DOT5 is purple, but it turns yellow after a while. This is useful for determining when you've flushed all the way through with new fluid.

    Dot5 or DOT 3/4/5.1

And DOT5 tolerates higher temps. For most applications DOT3 is OK, if it's the only thing in the system. It's important to thoroughly flush the system when going between dot3 and dot5 as they are incompatible with each other. You see a lot of people switch their trucks to DOT3 in the name of...

    Dot5 or DOT 3/4/5.1

To my knowledge and experience, DOT5 is the fluid to use.

Soft Doors vs X doors - what do you prefer?

Presumably the security feed from the cameras isn't stored in the cameras.

New Member, New M 817 Owner

You are correct. The dash switch controls where the fuel gauge looks. Th floor valve to the left of the driver seat on the floor controls where the fuel comes from. I'm not familiar with the valve "us6x4" mentions.

Soft Doors vs X doors - what do you prefer?

No doors? In all seriousness , if your goal is leak reduction or noise abatement, there's not much advantage fornX doors over soft doors.

    Block off leaking shutterstat

Having done it today, it's emphatically an AN6 on the inlet and an AN5 on the outlet. NH250 and dated 1984. I'm sure all of us are trying to avoid giving misinformation. Apparently there's at least two variations and probably more. The lesson to be taken is check yours before ordering/buying...

    Arizona Registration Follies: SF97 Fail

With experience specific to AZ and a sample size of dozens, I will emphatically state that the single most important variable is who you get behind the counter. Simple luck of the draw....

    Block off leaking shutterstat

For anyone reading this looking for a resolution- AN4 male to male was the wrong size. The inlet was AN6 and the outlet was AN5. This was on a shutterstat dated March of 1984. A custom little 2" hose from NAPA with a male AN6 and a male AN5 bypassed the shutterstat no problem. At which point...
