A few pictures and video there, owning a 10 tonner is not for the faint of heart.
Or pocketbook for that matter!!
Thanks Jeff,
I did check the 2 rebuild tags on my 2 M54s,the A1 is serial # 11012 and it is dated 6/75,the A2 is serial # 10054 and it's dated 6/74,both with TMA AMC marked on the tags.
I checked my 2 M54s here at the house( A1 and A2) and both have the same rebuild plate on the dash (TMA AMC) with a rebuild date of 1975.
If I remember correctly, the M54A1 I traded Papabear for the Proud American had that tag as well.
I wonder if CARNAC would be able to trace the history back...
It's being stored at Bjorn's place till the purchaser picks it up,that was my M52A2 I had for sale in the calssifieds.
Bjorn,
I am gonna try and get up there one Saturday before Christmas and swap the hard top for the new soft top and frame.I'll PM you a couple days before I make the trip.
I thought so,that exhaust setup was the first that came out on the early Mack repowers/factory produced trucks,it used the same muffler and tailpipe as the gassers.
If you decide you don't want it,I'll definetly take a chance on getting it further south. It's only 870 miles or so.
Any chance you could get pics of the engine ?
That looks like it may have a 673 Mack in it,not doubting your word, but the exhaust and intake plumbing scream early Mack install.
PM sent
Hmmm,it sounds like someone installed the hyd head drive in wrong,it drives off the injection pump shaft with a hypoid type gear setup,it is possible someone installed the drive wrong.
Unfortunately,it requires the complete removal of the injection pump to correct this problem.
Not really,I have decided to flat tow it up to Hendersonville next weekend(Nov 10th) to be delivered to Chief 919,and I am gonna remove the driveshafts anyway before transport.
I seriously doubt I will ever own another GMC deuce after these 4,I just don't have the patience to deal with em.
Well, since my name has been tossed around a lot already..
Welcome from WNC Mack Attack, good to meet another admirer of the Mighty Mack trucks and engines, sorry I already had the AMGeneral screenname pegged down.
Watch that vtdeucedriver guy,he is on the lookout for a Mack powered MV,I'm...
Ok,seeing as I have very little "road time" behind the wheel of a GMC deuce,I have a question to pose.......
My GMC seems to be "sluggish" when starting out, almost like the driveline is binding up or under load, It's more noticeable in high range vs low.
I know most automatics will "creep"...
I don't know for sure Jeff,I know he mentioned 53s in our conversations over the phone, plus some kind of equipment carrier for the rear maybe.
I'm not really sure it was gonna stay a tractor, dunno.
Well folks,I delivered this beast to it's new owner this past thursday evening (10/11/12)in Boone NC.
I used the M54A1 cargo to tow it vs my M52A2,I am pleased to report that the Mack pulled HWY 321 north to Boone in 4th gear the whole way,the truck/trailer combo weighed in at 27,000 lbs...
Well folks,I know this is an older thread, but it is the end of the story for me as far as this M52A2 is concerned.
I left this morning at 0715 hrs headed to Meadows Of Dan VA to deliver the truck to Cranetruck's place where it will be picked up in the near future by it's new owner,SS member...
Whoops,
Sorry CSM,you stated in your first post it was a M52A1 5 ton tractor,an A1 designation led me to believe it was powered by a ENDT 673 Mack engine, not the truck was made by Mack trucks inc.
The 3 pictures showed it was powered by a LDS 465-1A Multifuel, which SHOULD make it an A2,maybe...
Well CSM,that is not a M52A1 with a Mack,it's a M52A2 with a multi, but yes, that is the correct early Ross Hydrapower steering box for the M39 series trucks,I have 2 or 3 here with then same type steering.
Well, yeah,it left a couple big flakes here in the backyard.
All I could hear in my head while we were loading the wrecker bed was an old Johnny Cash song.........
Plus, after our "help" in getting the 915 and 270 in the backyard last night, this one comes to mind...
