Totally. Maybe someday on another truck, but trying to keep this one as nostalgic as possible yet still have an improvement over the NDTs. They have their place but it just didn't jive with me. And the steering was horrible at a dead stop!

Thank you...not as nice as a cage, one day I'll weld me up one. But for now the DOT chain will at least prevent the ring from flying through my neighborhood while I stand behind a wall watching my gauge and taking a peek once in a while. I used to do truck tires to pay my rent in college, only...
Thank you! Can't wait to see the finished look and take her for a spin. It's been 2 weeks since pushing the big red button.

Got a visit from Mr. 98G and traded my MRAP tires, wheels, and adaptors for a set of pristine G177's on 5 ton rims and a few deuce wheels to complete my set I had. I always felt the 395s were too big for my taste, although they looked cool I missed the original look but wanted the improvement of...
LOL...thank you. I'm sort of a "Hack of all trades" and "Too stubborn and cheap to pay for someone else to do it" type of guy.
And yeah, my garage is a mess. Once this thing is mounted on the truck I'll have a functional work area again. My wife keeps bugging me to clean it up. We have a 3 car...
Thank you...I get by with basic resources around my garage...Not bad oval, but oval enough so it wouldn't turn when done.

Cut out the slag and ugliness Uncle Sam's torch left behind, found out it was about 7/16" out of round and about 1/2" of gap to fill in. Used a porta-power (hydraulic portable jack) to force it back and hold it round while welding the gap.

Prep work you ask? Well...
You could probably get by with just taking off the top cover, the one with the machine screws and back pad...hit both with a wire wheel and then shoot some paint and primer...but mine needed a tad more TLC. It was demilled by Uncle Sam and sat in a yard for a...
Didn't do much to the deuce, but did some painting and in the process of doing so, created some interesting MV yard art!

I just won 3 sets of passenger car tires. Wondering if anyone near Herlong, CA (near Reno) or anyone who won an auction last week has some extra room. I'm in Bakersfield and will be on the Oakland area in 2 weeks (Mar 31-April 1) for a conference. Thank you my brothers!

Check your solenoids. Battery problems usually cause a bunch of resistance and arcing on the contacts, so the copper gets burnt and you get that click you speak of. If so take it apart and flip over the contractors. Or clean them up good.

Plenty of grease. Lots of rags. 1 can of brake cleaner for each hub or make your own concoction with mineral spirits. 2-4 wheel cylinders (all 6 of mine were leaking) a set of shoes or 2, brake fluid, several hub and axle bolts in case you break a few, don't know if you got the front style lugs...
Nice, I figured these would be custom made. I always forget these guys have some of the more hard to find stuff. Thank you.

Valence, where did you get the straps that hold down the ammo cans? They look similar to the pioneer tool kit straps.
