O ring on the shut off rod appears to be good to go. No leakage. Lot's learned on the HH and how to get it apart and back together again. Had to do comparitive maintenance on the shut off cable. I couldn't figure it out till I looked at another truck. I'll drain off the excess sometime over...
That's what happened...twice. The second time AFTER changing the oil. At least I don't have to change the filters again, just drain them. Just ordered the gasket set, Thank you Phil for posting the information. It's finally warm enough today I might get to test the O Ring I changed out. I'm...
Thank you very much doghead! I drove my NCO's nuts as a young PFC and Lance Cpl because I couldn't find stuff in the TO. A simple bit of information is worth more than one of my infamous disertations. I get 60 degree weather again soon, Illl be testing o rings immidiately or as soon as the swamp...
Doghead, seems like you've got the best of alot of good advice. Now to figure out where all these things are. I found the HH, removed and located 3 O rings. Two are large and I don't have replacements. I'll hold off on messing with them till I can find a source for them. The third is a...
Just had a thought. The only place where oil and fuel can come into contact with each other is in the turbo. Fuel is injected by the fuel nozzle (see TM 9-2320-361-20, paragraph 3-31, page 3-67, item 27). Oil is injected by the oil inlet tube and drains out through the Oil drain hose (see TM...
This is where I'm at so far. The intake fuel nozzle (next to the spark plug) was leaking externally. When I removed it and took it apart I found the o ring was old and cracked. I replaced it and the External Leak from there stopped. I replaced a Fuel line..not sure yet where it goes but it...
Checked the oil both ways you indicatedd and it looks like I failed the paper check. The oil didn't spiderweb down the dipstick. And now there looks like more "oil" is in the crancase. Probably about two quarts. Now to figure out where the cross over is occuring. I'll go through the "making...
I'm on my way out to try out your ideas. There is no fuel smell coming from the oil. I had a couple fuel leaks that I finally got around to fixing so I'm up to date on my fuel smelling certification. The old oil smelled lie old oil. The new oil which has about an hour on it, smells like new...
No, I never changed the oil..on any of the M35's. I pulled the dipstick, felt the oil and it wasn't gritty. There were no leaks on any of them and as I understand it, there is an oil analysis program the Army uses to keep track of contaminants. Place a sample in a tester, burn it and it'll tell...
This is a weird one: got my Toys For Tots (T4T) truck (1972 M35A2 WO/W) all set up for the big kickoff on the 5th (Oct) (picture below). I wanted to show the T4T committee what I had done and make sure the truck was set up as they envisioned. Got halfway there and my wife pulled up beside me...
I'd recomend you use some type of hydraulic fluid. The air tool oil would do fine if you plan on going back into it within a 3-4 year time period (that's a WAG, you may never have to go back in). Hydraulic fluid used on tractors (front end loader) would be my recomendation. It's as close as...
I'm not sure which air packs I've got but if there's a short one out there, I'll definitely keep you in mind. And in your case, I'd have gone for the rebuild first...if it could have been rebuildable. Sorry to hear you had to go through all that work only to find you had to replace it. Guess...
Can't speak for anyone else but any time I get to buy new parts, it's a good thing. Rebuild is OK but new parts:mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:. Of course buying parts requires cetain consessions for the boss. The things you some times have to do to get a new part...well this is a family friendly...
I've had to redo my brakes on all 3 of my M35s. One master cylinder was the worst job. All the others had blown wheel cylinders. Not sure I'm clear on the air pack rebuild, but it can't hurt. Is it leaking? Easy to tell, usually. Run the truck till the air pressure is as high as it will go...
Sorry to hear you had to deal with those type cases...you are not alone in that respect. To add to your info on the synthetic rope: the AF used to catch missiles. Hunh? Catch Missiles? Yup. We had a 10K specialized winch in a couple modified HH-53Cs. Someone would launch a missile with a...
:soapbox:As a crew chief on H-53's, H-3's, H-60's (rescue hoist) and H-1's (again, rescue hoist); my fellow crew chiefs and I became experts on our winches, 2 each rated at 10K pulling strength (H-53; can't remember what the rating was on our HH-3E's) . Never, ever, ever use anything but the...
