Pre-Buy jitters, Reliability nightmare horror stories... Please Help.

What moron told you that HMMVW is unreliable? It's built like a tank, sans few small concerns on some like grounding issues or wheel hubs coming off. Remember that you'll be looking for 20+ year old vehicle, so maintenance is to be expected. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk

Need advise of a truck search

How much are you willing to throw at this thing? Do you need a turn key or are you willing to mess with it for few (several) months to get it road worthy? If turn key, are you looking for a 2 or 4 door, open or enclosed, soft or hard top? Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

    How to pull-start a HMMWV...

I would not trust a guy that's charging you 50 bucks a month. Those things don't leak -- they evaporate. Ask him to install anti-gravity field controller. Don't oversize the unit or your tires will lose traction with the ground! Happy belayed "May the Fourth be with you".

I have the Airlift bumper and brackets, but no nuts and bolts. Need sizes...

Far Rockaway you say? I was stationed at Fort Tilden. I lived in Bensonhurst and Bay Ridge before parents bought house in Staten Island. ****, I miss Brooklyn.

Is radio tray steel or aluminum?

Thanks. Call me 505-321-2241 when you have a minute to discuss options. Mario

Nevermind the tractor idea -- just saw that you're in Brooklyn. Where in Brooklyn? I haven't lived there in over a quarter of a century, but may still have a contact or two in mechanic shop.

Use a tractor, forklift or even engine lift. ****, use jack stands and take air out of the tires if you need fine adjustments or even car jack to raise the front a bit.

    Bogert jack, storage location??

It is very stable -- a lot more so than Hi-Lift. I've used Hi-Lift for years in my rock crawling days. For me, I never break down (tire flats or other repairs) on flat, semi-level ground. Because of that, the jack that goes under the truck has limited appeal. On HMMWV the shackles that are on...

Is radio tray steel or aluminum?

I can't find a decent source for the radio tray. I'm not getting MIL radio anyway and was going to use the tray to keep CB, chargers, drink holders, tissues, and other crap on it anyway. I can fab one based on pictures I've seen. With that said, are the OEM ones aluminum or steel? What about...

    Bogert jack, storage location??

Did you already get one? I looked at those and decided that a hi-lift was much more versatile.

the real cost of owning a HMMWV

I got mine for $11,100. It runs. Between 60A-->200A upgrade, doors that need replacement, headlights, rear bumper and tire carrier, tires, winch, paperwork, etc. -- I'm pushing $20k. Start thinking about upgrading seats, dome lights, lightbars, etc.; you see where I'm going with this?

M998 soft doors - repair or replace?

I'm still looking for 2 soft doors in like new condition because both front windows are either cracking or are marred up from being folded behind the sloping door support and the black scuff marks are not coming off.

Good luck. Let us know how it went -- that is assuming that you still have most/all of your digits and at least some skin to press the keyboard keys. :-)

M998 soft doors - repair or replace?

I wanted to update you that the suggested fixes worked great. I would still like to find a reasonable source for at least 2 front doors, but what we did so far to patch the broken stitching seems to hold up.

    Tire debate...

Whatever you do, check the tire pressure. I picked up some tires with wheels, all assembled and inflated. Didn't bother to check the tire pressure. Now less than a month and 1,000 miles later, my 'new' tire is trashed. Live and learn I suppose; live and learn. Sent from my SM-G920P using...

New member, just got my EUC approved and headed out to pick up my M998A1 this weekend

Got my M998 from Texarkana TX few months back. Guys are more than willing and actually prefer to load M998s with forklift. No need to try to start it, aim it, etc.
