Well folks, looks like i'm in,i'll probably be driving the Dodge as I need to deliver a 8N tractor to Anderson, but I should be there from Thurs evening till Sat evening, leave out early Sunday morning.
Well,i'm out,cranked the M54A1 today,it definetly needs a cam/tappets now.
I don't have time to install that before wednesday plus get it spiffed up for the show.
Maybe next time.
If memory serves I remember reading in Fred Crimson's "U.S. Military Wheeled Vehicles" that these were tested in 1973 as a replacment for the M123 series trucks, they were powered by a Mack ENDT 866 V8 joined with a Mack TRTXL transmission.
I'll post pictures later if I can find my copy of the...
Worked on the GMC again today, pulled the control valve off took it apart and checked everything again, bright and shiny, all plungers/valves/springs in their correct places. I pressure tested all the ports within the trans with clean air, everything worked as it should, bands, clutch packs...
Well,I am back to square one here,

Cleaned the control valve, governer, trans pan, flushed the entire trans twice till the oil came out clean,then...
Digging up an old thread again....

Today I finally finished installing a replacment trans(another 302M,donated from another truck) it tested well within suggested pressure limits,Now it shifts 1-3 with...
Oddball hasn't been a really dependable ride as of late,I wouldn't trust driving it that far.
The M54A1 needs a camshaft and tappets, and nothing else is roadworthy right now.
Well, seeing what fuel prices are doing, and given I sold the 915A1 recently,as of right now I probably will not be there, working on too many projects, not any spare cash and nothing to drive up there.
Slight change of plans for me,Looks as if I'll only be able to come down for a while on Sat,probably around lunchtime, and then have to leave sometime around 5 PM or so.
