I spent a few months in Uzbekistan and saw local gents using old ex-Russian MVs in similar grossly overloaded conditions. All hard ground/pavement so I didnt get to witness the off-roading but it was cool nonetheless. The maintenance is right... constant maintenance but I'll bet those guys are...
The two long marks down the center look like they were left by generator skids. I don't recognize any of the brackets. My guess is it was modified by a unit to be a non standard commo or special equipment trailer. Engineer like crazy guy said, or perhaps ordnance (vehicle maintenance).
It's pretty bad when the contractor is worse than the bureaucracy that contracted them. I only recently discovered how painful the process was, but I suppose it's the price we pay for somewhat below retail prices on gov't equipment you're not going to get anywhere else. Government Liquidation...
Diesel UTVs are common, but I personally have not seen a diesel ATV. The diesel UTVs I've seen are much larder than what you have pictured, I'm not sure there's a diesel ATV/UTV out there that's as small /light as the (350 or so?) ATV you already have.
Not a MV, but here's my tracked vehicle. The tracks are made by TJD of Canada. They work great in the snow and mud, traction and flotation beat the **** out of tires. They have the added bonus of lowering the center of gravity, and widening the stance so I probably couldn't roll it if I tried...
Yesterday after talking to 3 different people at the Fairbanks, AK DMV they finally figured out how to proceed with my SF97 and POA from GL. The fun didnt end there, when the clerk finally started the application and registration she couldnt find the manufacturer in their database. My M101A2 is...
I've never been inside one, but that thing looks pretty roomy, especially the drivers station. Might make a decent family APC. Take the kids to soccer games, grandmas house and such.
What did it go for, and where was it sold at if you don't mind me asking?
I saw that one this morning on my way to work. I wanted to stop and get a picture, but i didnt have time. I'm curious as to why it's been parked next to the ford dealer on that cul-de-sac. Problems perhaps? Usually when the RV'ers park for a stay the area and vehicles just look inhabited. This...
I'm picking up my 101 tomorrow to tow behing my 2010 Power Wagon! Prior to this one I don't even have yet, I've only used them towed behind HMMWVs, but my experience with M101's is that you can load them up, and you'll dam near max out the volume before you max the weight.
I'll trade you my...
I'm curious as to how rare Husky parts are. I saw one for sale in Tok, AK and I thought a Husky might be a fun somewhat lighter/smaller tracked vehicle to own and restore, but I'd be worried about finding parts. There is one on display here w/w, but unfortunately it's still gov owned. :-( Let us...
Are you going to make it look like a MV? I have thought about the same thing. I looked over HMMWVs for sale and found a lot of the same issues. For less money I can probably find a decent H1 and modify it to be close to an MV. The interior is the biggest difference appearance wise, but some nice...
Use a bit of stainless safety wire fasten your tag to the vehicle if you use a magnetic mount. I safety wire my tags when they're cable tied to the front of my Jeep (lack of a factory mount) or flimsy plastic trailer mount. Easy to snip if you want it to come off, and hard to see so it doesnt...
Cool, that truck is from 539th Trans, which is now based here at Ft Wainwright. They were inactivated in Vietnam in '71, and were just reactivated here at FWA in 2007.
blybrook,
Did you get a M101 recently from the DRMO here in Fairbanks? I am pending an EUC to pick mine up and was curious to know if yours needed new bearings or seals immediately? I know these were recently pulled from service here at FT Wainwright but most of them had not seen much use or...
I have to do the same thing for an M101 as soon as my EUC comes back. Just so I'm straight, the "packard connectors" will go into the NATO plug? Or they'll go into the wiring junction box?
I've looked through all the threads on this subject, and if recall correctly, this is the first that...
