How do you stop a m809 if the brakes fail?

I saw a thread on that somewhere. For sure, that's the ultimate upgrade but it seemed awfully expensive.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Giddyup! I managed to clear most of the tree trash from my property today. I could have hauled all of it if I had troop seats/stake sides. The truck was full, volume-wise. I've wanted to get rid of this crap for AGES. It would have been 3-4 utility trailer loads for sure. All stumps, logs and...

Bought a HEMTT in NC on impulse. Advice wanted

The bottom line here, is that Gman has given me defensive ammunition for all the people in my family and social circle who tell me I'm nuts for buying an M813. For this, I am grateful. :D

    Introducing the Soldier B HubHelper!!

I also want one. Let me see what Friday's finances yield...plus the dreaded tax filing.

How do you stop a m809 if the brakes fail?

They are indeed, single circuit brakes. There is a fair amount of discussion in the Deuce sub-forum about upgrading them to the Air Force dual-circuit master cylinder. If they are successful, I'm hoping the procedure can be adapted to the older 5 tons. One guy just completed the upgrade but is...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I did bend the military arm. It didn't improve things. I was kind of surprised.

    Emergency rescue operations M929a2 prep

Stunning. If nearby lives were at risk and seconds counted, I might sacrifice the truck for that. If folks were sitting on their rooftop and I had time to call in a boat? No way. Do it for fun? Not a chance.

    Emergency rescue operations M929a2 prep

They weren't "destroying" them as long as they operated the trucks in accordance with the established procedures in the manuals and performed the required PMCS after driving in high water. There's no "free lunch." Rigging a bracket for a flat bottom boat to carry along isn't a bad idea at all.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

The Rain-X blades bolt onto the mil-spec arm? Or the Anco 41- arm?

    Emergency rescue operations M929a2 prep

Let's be realistic here. At some point, you need a boat. In that video, the water was literally over the driver's faces. When the vehicles finally stalled, there was enough current that the last vehicle was drifting, being pushed to the right, after it stopped. In moving floodwaters, even a...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

My attempts to rebuild my flaky wiper motor have failed, so I guess I'll purchase a replacement. These are plastic body wiper motors. As an experiment, I purchased a single mil-spec wiper arm and wiper blade. Absolutely terrible. Useless. The arm just can't produce enough spring tension to...

    That's ok, I found it.

    '71 M35A2 air compressor lubrication

Hey, question on cleaning the data plates. Mine are oxidized and I wondered if I could polish them up without removing the black background and lettering and such. Did you use any kind of cleaner or compound with the buffing wheel? I know I can buy shiny new plates, but I'd like to try to...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Well, the G272 tire sounds safer, no matter what you use the truck for.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Brrr... forget it! Stay inside! I'll measure my spare tire when I get home. I was going to rent a U-haul trailer and pull it with my Subaru Outback but a co-worker has offered to make the run in his full sized pickup with a trailer. We're just trying to work out an agreeable day. I'm not ready...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Gotcha. Visually, the front just looks "smaller" to me but I think that's a visual trick of the front being singles. New question: I want to transport 10, mounted, 11.00X20 NDTs. An 11.00X20 is 41" tall. How *wide* is a mounted, inflated 11.00X20 NDT? Also- How accurate is my weight guess...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I'm surprised that going from 11.00 to 12.00 on an 809 series makes much difference. Interesting. When you say 11's are too skinny on the front, how do you mean? You don't like the way it steers or...?

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Weird, I tried to hit the "Thanks" button instead of wasting a post, but it's not visible in your post. So, 400# for that mounted tire. [thumbzup]

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I'm more of a caretaker owner than a tweaker or modifier. I briefly entertained upgrading to 12.00X20 simply because they should fit and the M819 had them but decided that it was a lot of effort for zero gain. Mainly, I was just curious if everyone who jumps up to massive tires was aware of the...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

TobyS- I have a question about the larger tires. I notice that many, many people upgrade to larger tires. Many people report a higher top speed, but that it takes longer to get there. Assuming a stock engine, isn't there also a power trade off? Don't you lose some power from trying to turn...
