Picked-up the chassis today. Flat-towed it home. Had to flip the leafspring pads in order to get the wheels to track straight, but after that it was smooth sailing. Almost time to start re-assembly!
Ooooooh, then you might be disappointed. Not going to be green. Yes, the box is getting sandblasted too. Everything is, or has already been, sandblasted.
Chassis is sandblasted and primed, and should be getting painted sometime next week. Will be flat-towing the rolling chassis home with a towbar as soon as it's done, and then it'll finally be time to put the new 5-ton MF engine in there, reinstall the transmission, install the new transfer-case...
Probably not with the stock radiator in the stock location, no. But I've got an A3 hood, so have to make a new grill to work with that, and am planning on adding an intercooler and a few other custom touches anyway. Custom/modified radiator wouldn't be any trouble. Cool to know it might be...
Why? To speed-up the steering? Probably not a good idea. You need to maintain the right geometry of the steering linkage (pitman arm, drag-link & steering arm on knuckle) relative to the suspension linkage (front half of the leafsprings) or bumpsteer will increase and that's bad, mmmkay...
Well maybe like the air compressors I found that are a direct fit, but put out 15CFM, it might be advantageous to use a different pump in the stock location if you have hydraulic systems that have specific requirements that the stock pump doesn't meet.
Personally, I was especially interested...
25-degrees? I think motorcoaches and OTR trucks are supposed to be able to handle up to at least 35-degrees. The military has to have commissioned some kind of tests of these vehicles. Nobody has seen anything? here's a document that outlines some rollover testing procedures for larger vehicles.
Sorry, I don't actually know much about hydraulic systems or components or terminology. Thanks for clarifying. So something like those Sweet servos is pretty much what you were suggesting, but in a more compact package, right? And obviously also eliminates any potential for the mechanical and...
I'm not sure what you're referring to as a hand-pump, but if you're talking about what I would call an orbital valve or a servo, then that's pretty much exactly how the Sweet servos that I posted a link to work, minus the gears and chains. It's a pretty tight little setup, and taking everything...
Just received the hubsteps and have a few sets that are still not spoken for. Would still like to do some kind of a giveaway too. Moderators, is it alright if I start a new thread to do a lottery-style giveaway like they do on pirate4x4?
I've got a 5-ton PS pump that came with the 5-ton multifuel engine that I bought for mah deuce, but I don't see why a modified Saginaw-type pump wouldn't be up to the task.
Good point G, but that would be pretty easy to solve with a steering quickener. They're cheap and available in a lot of...
Oh, well then you should definitely go talk to the guys at Sweet about putting one of their servos. It's the best way I'm aware of to add ram-assist to a steering system that doesn't have a power-steering box. The most difficult part would be splicing something like that into the enclosed...
Are you talking about something like these? Think that might be the hot setup for any application where the suspension won't exceed the limitations of the stock steering linkage. Anyway, that's almost definitely how I would have done it...
No, that's easy. All you have to do is anchor the top corners (front/back) on the high side of the box to something secure. A winch-line from another vehicle that you can pay-out gradually would be ideal. Jack up one side of the vehicle (forklift?) so that the winch cable is not supporting it...
