    Vehicle hit in an accident

Ok, your eyes are officially better then mine. There was SOME bend there before (on the lip itself), but right where you said, the wheel arch has been pulled out a bit, and the fender is in about 1/4 to 1/2" over about a 1"x3" area. I looked and where the rivets are, and all around it is flat...

    Vehicle hit in an accident

Only way to get covered would be to hire a lawyer and sue, unless the other persons insurance takes fault. (I've been through this before). For cosmetic damage, not worth the effort. Actual damage? Then ya, I'd try. But since the police didn't feel it necessary to go and create a report, it...

    Vehicle hit in an accident

Yup, already had an alignment schedule for Monday.. Yup, traded insurance info. As soon as she gets home with the HMMWV, we're calling out insurance company to get this on record. I only have liability.. so I'm on my own for damage. But I need an accurate record of the damage, IF we find...

    Vehicle hit in an accident

It was a car, I'll get pictures when she gets home. She said it all looked straight and true. She drove HMMWVs (ambulances) for 10 years, so I trust her ability to look at the vehicle and decide if it's a death trap. :). (She is the reason I found and bough this M998. She'd been driving it...

    Vehicle hit in an accident

I loaned my M998 to the housemate to use as a pickup truck to get something. 1 block from where she was going, making a right hand turn.. car behind her decides to pass her on the right! (Edit: she was making a LEFT turn, and the person decided to pass her on the LEFT on a 2-lane road, marked...

    Missing part?

That isn't on my M998, so I'm guessing armor or skid plate attachments. (Mine doesn't, and AFAIK has never had either.)

    Arctic Softtop/Doors

If I leave the 2-man on in the summer, I'll either take off the doors or use my regular doors with the windows that unzip. As for the rear curtain, I can always unzip the center bit for some more ventilation, but so far this fall it's not really been an issue.

Got it going, and now can't stop - or should I say stops to good. stuck rear caliper

I’ve I’ve seen them for sale on eBay and other places, but the ones that include the compression are more expensive by way easier to use.

    Arctic Softtop/Doors

Regular vs Arctic: * Regular is just a single layer of fabric (vinyl?) so little to no insulating - "Soft" plastic windows - Windows on doors unzip, to open * Arctic is insulated/pleated (the insulation kind of looks fiberglass like, but more dense). - "Hard" plastic windows - Windows...

Got it going, and now can't stop - or should I say stops to good. stuck rear caliper

Other folks sell the tool similar Milcommoguy's pictures. It's not the cheapest thing in the world, but boy is it useful! Also you can use a combination of a piston compressor and a turning tool, one of the TM has instructions for building the tool.

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

I've been buying parts mostly from MacMotors and Kascar (Real4wd) recently. So far I'm pretty happy with the results and the parts I've gotten seem "real". (I wouldn't call them "cheap" though.) I did buy my 2-man arctic top from Eastern Equipment. It was exactly as advertised and cost what...

    M998 Control box click

The Natron unit plus matching TSU are in stock at a few of the regular places. I just bought one, last week. If you want to know where from message me, don’t want to break any advertising rules.

    M998 Control box click

I wish I could find it for you, but my search abilities have failed after a day of work... But there is a thread somewhere here with a picture of all of the various boxes and listing the corresponding TSU (or glow plug controller for the really old boxes).

Humvee M1165 steel cable under the body

I took a picture of my exhaust yesterday, but you can see the cross member in the photo.

    HMMWV Tool Bag

I've got my rig in a 2-man setup right now, so hard to get behind the drivers seat. I've been putting it with the first aid kit in the side area by the batteries. Seems to fit beside the first aid kit perfects. (The bracket that is there was already installed on the vehicle from the...

    M998 Control box click

Take a look at the box. Does it have two sockets on the front (under the dash) and one on top (in the engine compartment)? If so it's one of the newer style boxes. If you only have one socket under the dash, and one in the engine bay it's an older style box. Below is a picture of my KDS box...

M1165 Humvee now recovered! from Scottsdale AZ

Keep an eye on Craigslist and Ebay. I bet the body parts will start to show up there, especially parts like the tail gate.

    M998 Control box click

As someone already mentioned, you need to make sure you have matching TSU and Control Box. Otherwise the control box may not know if the engine is hot or cold, and won't run the glow plugs. Also be aware the control box diagnostic steps in the TM may be incorrect for the box you have! The...

    HMMWV Tool Bag

I know this is a little different, but... I decided to replicate (remake?) the tool bag documented in the HMMWV manual. The bag, tire iron, pliers, Philips screw drivers and slotted screw driver are correct military surplus (as far as I've been able to tell). The 8" adjustable wrench is one...

    Starter Question

I'm guessing it's the bendix, I know I can buy the part but so far I've not found a rebuild guide for the starter. I'm guessing (assuming the windings are good, which I do believe they are, since it still works fine), I really only need to replace the bend, should replace the brushes, and maybe...
