I've been watching yours and Soni's builds and am amazed at the ingenuity and fab skills both you guys have. I do have an issue/concern, this is also a concern I had when I drove HEMMT's in the Army. They had no mechanical linkage from the steering wheel to the steer axles, just hydraulics. Do...
On the commercial trucks I drove (standard transmissions) you would flip a switch on the dash to engage the jakes. Usually they came on when you took your foot off the accelerator. It took some getting used to to have to push the pedal down on the M915/M916's I drove in the Army. I'm not sure if...
The turret top is sought after but unless you have a gun ring on the truck it's going to look a little out of place. There may also be leak issues with them. I have a gun ring that I may sell.
Finding one that will give you power and decent road speed may be a challenge. The A3 deuces with the CAT engine and Allison transmission are slower than the A2 trucks.
If you want your CTIS to work you have to have the TM. If you don't have the TM see if you can find it on digits. There is a sequence you have to go through to get it to work correctly (not that they ever work correctly). I have already disconnected two wheels on my M927 and will prob do them...
Back in the day we added ATF to clean the injectors and it seemed to work well on the old mechanical pump engines, not sure how the new ones can handle it. The 250 Cummins has the same block as the 400 and if you could find a 400 cheap I'd do that before I put money in a 250 or 290. You might...
They used them at Fort Benning so soldiers could face outward rather than inward when on a convoy. The idea was that they could return fire easier than if they were in the normal seating arragnement. I always thought it was kind of a dumb concept. Being up in the bed made you a big target from...
I picked up the fishwrapper as I left for the fest this morning and when I finally got time to check it out we had made the front page of the Gadsden Times http://www.gadsdentimes.com/ . They did a real good job of covering the guys that were displaying things and explaining their respective...
This morning while at the Alternative Fuel Fest my phone rang. Fellow SS Barricade (Mark) had buried his deuce nose down in a quagmire. As soon as the Fest was over I headed north to affect a rescue of the semi-submerged deuce.
Murphy was hovering over the situation and the rain started about...
We had a pretty good first day and had the local fishwrapper and one TV station come out to interview people that brought vehicles.
Wayne Keith's woodgas powered pickup was the big attraction and he took the newspaper guy for a ride in it.
Here are some pics.
When I was in the Army part of our training when we went out on manuvers (in a trans unit) was winching operations. It is better to have some practice under you belt before you have to use one in an emergency. If you have MV buddies in your area (or other enablers) you can find a good place to...
There are people working there that take short cuts and a lot of them use the same discription over and over. By stating that it does not run....etc...etc...etc they can say "I told you so" if you get there and it is FUBAR.
I have bought a lot of trucks from GL and only one or two would not...
If there are vehicles like this coming up for auction or if there is an active auction you should try to avoid posting even general information until the auction is over. Most of us savy auction watchers know what is for sale and when but even giving someone a faint lead could cause prices to go...
I won't post my ususal rant about the HETT.
They have a cool factor but like any huge truck they are money pits unless you have a good paying gig to support them.
I think M123's and M911's are cool too but unless I hit the lotto I won't be owning one.
I would buy a M920 since they are more...
I had a multi-fuel 5 ton tractor.......they are somewhat gutless but will do the job. On the plus side you can run it on just about anything flammable.
BUMP
Just keeping the thread alive to remind folks the event is this coming weekend and everyone is welcome to drop by and visit or bring an MV or alternative fueled vehicle.
If you have a waste fuel collection and/or filtering system to display that would be a plus. PM for contact info.
