What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

The best time to install the hardware and wires for the duel alternator is NOW, when the engine is out and the wires disconnected. Sometimes the fastest and easiest way is to bite the bullet. You will thank me later. Best of luck, T

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Fording is cool BUT I think a dual voltage amp is the safest way for you to go my friend. Trusting stuff not made in the USA is questionable... Look for the Union Label....". Trusting stuff from an "honest" country that hid a deadly virus since August 2019, (as proven by satellite images...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

That area gets wet from rain and while driving. Unless that device is specifically waterproof that might be a very bad modification. Your 12V engine will stop in the rain. Better to install a two voltage alternator. You will also seriously miss your water for the wipers in Winter But also late...

Boredom project, LB7 dirtymax turbo on a 6.2

So, large turbos work on gasoline engines because they push 6000RPM, gasoline is only 15% efficient so it makes more exhaust, and therefore they flow a lot of air. Diesel engines turn lower RPM's, don't flow as much air, and Diesel fuel is about 40% efficient, so there is less exhaust airflow...

Big problems - my shaking was a broken crankshaft!

YIKES! EDIT - You might try using a Dremmel to grind a new channel on the crankshaft (in a new area and not the old area), and use a new balancer. Might save your engine for a few years. Certainly easier than an engine swap.

Boredom project, LB7 dirtymax turbo on a 6.2

Saab used to use tiny Mitsubishi turbos In the 1980’s in the old version Saab 900 turbos. I wonder if that would spoil up faster.

Stuck plug on old control box.

NDT, you're a great guy, but you and I will need to agree to disagree that a used serviceable pigtail is a bad idea if this plug is farked. Sorry brother but there is no down side to splicing wires correctly with high temperature solder or crimp on terminals that are then soldered and screwed...

Stuck plug on old control box.

Hi Crapgame. Love the Kelly's Heros reference. Been meaning to tell you. Easier/faster/cheaper to take a used plug with factory pre-crimped leads already attached to long sections of wire. Then just solder wire to wire without needing to crimp leads to wires and embed the leads in the rubber of...

Stuck plug on old control box.

Long response that is kinda saying nothing. You "know the vehicle" yet you are saying an older PCB was flashing codes and sometimes didn't cycle the plugs, and you never considered the corrosion itself was interfering with glow plug cycling. You never considered corrosion elsewhere screwing up...

    Reduce Rattles

It rattles less if you don’t drive it. Replace door seals and gaskets. Pad the rear hatch. HUGE difference.

Stuck plug on old control box.

Ultimately, YOU need to know your rig. Leaving it to a mechanic is bad. Simple corrosion might have been your problem. If you have a keyed ignition, that is also a problem and can cause starting issues. A pre-lifter fuel pump can cause issues. Pulling apart a plug is not hard and a little...

Boredom project, LB7 dirtymax turbo on a 6.2

Your cartridge might be mismatched. Try a smaller unit.

Stuck plug on old control box.

When the box is working, you should not mess with it. Now you need to replace the box, the glow plug temperature sensor and possibly the plug. Drop the old box, cut the wires, and see if you can save the plug.

    Stuck Fan Clutch

A stuck fan clutch that is not leaking fluid is preferable to one that does not activate or one that leaks. For the time being, I would leave it alone. Like I just posted elsewhere, I will follow another old post here in this forum and swap in a mechanical GM clutch just like is on all my...

    1991 HMMWV overheating

I think I've had enough of the Cadillac valve and I will be converting my system to a traditional GM clutch. I don't ford water and I have no need for a fan clutch. The HP loss can't be greater than 1%, and honestly, the idea of a thousand dollar system to control an engine fan that can also...

    1991 HMMWV overheating

These are not the vehicle to not understa A temp sensor WILL NOT cause overheating!!!! Low radiator fluid, clogged radiator, bad radiator hose that got soft and collapses under use, bad thermostat (NOT TEMP SENSOR), bad fan clutch, driving too fast will all cause overheating. Learn your...

CTIS vs non CTIS lower hub gears

I have CTIS on a civilian truck. The plan is to connect only for long drives and off-road camping. Overnight it has quick connects to disconnect. When you're on the move, CTIS is not an issue, but when parked it will most likely leak. I had initially wanted CTIS for my M1025a1, but RWH set me...

My first M998: Fixing her up

Glad you got the SF-97, but how do you plan to register and title in California? Don't see it happening unless Arnold gets re-elected. Tremendous irony that the man who started it all governed the state that is trying to kill it off.

Lots of Rain in TX lately

As you get older, obtaining hard thick stiff wood that can get wet without breaking might become difficult. 1/8 Aluminum sheet, treated plywood, a central 2-3 inch PVC pipe notched to fit over the ribs all will work. Forming a custom fiberglass molded sheet with ventilation holes would be more...
