NEEWB to Deuces. Looking to get first Deuce (need sage advice)

I believe theres an exemption for historic vehicles over a certain age. You'll want to talk to people in California who have these things. Don't get your info from people out of state (including me), nor unfortunately from reading the laws. The relevant data is scattered and the exemptions...

NEEWB to Deuces. Looking to get first Deuce (need sage advice)

$10k is the price point I've been aiming for on recent M939series trucks. I've sold a couple right around that in the past year. Granted, it's the high end of his budget. Thing is, he specified auto transmission ....

NEEWB to Deuces. Looking to get first Deuce (need sage advice)

Consider a 939series 5ton, as well as LMTVs.

Rear wheel single out w/out flipping hubs

    Yes.

Rear wheel single out w/out flipping hubs

Different offset on the wheels so that they have the same trackwidth.

    tow bar bracket

1" feet exist for the medium, the medium-heavy, and the heavy towbars. A 5ton will towbar the deuce no problem. The deuce takes the same towbar feet as the 5ton so if he's set up to tow the 5ton he's set up to tow the deuce.

    tow bar bracket

The deuce takes the 1" tow bar feet. Drifting off topic, what do you plan to use for a tow vehicle? Can you describe the "heavy duty towbar" in more detail?

2018 KAMO Rally Oct 5th-7th (Kansas Arkansas Missouri Oklahoma)

Nudge... any firm dates for 2018? The KAMO rally this year is the first full weekend in Oct 5th thru 7th, just a heads up to get the dates off. Even if you are not sure but think you will be coming please post how many will be with you. It will be as in years past, will take place in at the...

803 Bogs Down and dies at 85% Load

From what I have seen so far, aside from the rocker arm failing, I can find no cause as to why the valve kissed the top of the piston. Everything points to the broken rocker arm as the culprit. I'm thinking that the pushrod/piston/valve is the effect of something as yet undiagnosed, and not...

    M813A1 Transmission Air leak

The sPrague changes direction as it goes in and out of reverse. Spraying it full of lubricant and shifting in and out of reverse should d be sufficient.

    HMMVW roll bars

I would be interested in data from a walking speed rollover with a rollbar which was not tied to the frame. Even a sample size of one would be interesting. I saw a video of a stock jeep that got sideways on a hill and rolled sideways for maybe 20 revolutions. Looked like the occupants were...

    HMMVW roll bars

I speculate that it depends on the speed at which it happens. A motor vehicle collision with rollover at highway speed probably won't end well. On the other hand, offroad rock crawling and havr a lowspeed roll over those roll bars may be the difference between walking away unscathed and DRT...

    Not building air at idle

I suspect the unloader is full of water....

    Highway speed of 5ton

I think what suits his needs best would be a 916. Sounds like he gets into rough enough stuff to need the 6x6 that the 915 doesn't have. The 809 and 939 series trucks are not road tractor specific enough to be ideal, even tweaked to bump up the top speed A recent M916A3 would probably be...

    M923A1 with 4 six volt

I believe he thought they were six volt becausee there are 4 of them and it's a 24v system. His deuce has a 24v system and has two 12v batteries, thus since there's four here in this 24v system they must be 6v. Obviously he knows better now.

    M923A1 with 4 six volt

If you have the time, charging each battery individually as mentioned above is optimal. If you don't have the time or a slave cable, you can jump 24v to 24v using a normal jumper cable. The first positive post and the truck frames are what you should grab. This merits caution, as incorrect...

    Highway speed of 5ton

I've got an M818 with the original transmission and axles. 16.00 super singles. It runs 65mph or so and gets about 7mpg. RPMs 2000ish.

803 Bogs Down and dies at 85% Load

I've been thinking.... Let's change units of measure for a moment. We have a MEP803, nominally a 10kW generator. The military underrates them. Typically they'll happily make 120%... You have 20,000 watts (labeled) of load. The generator is pushed right at the 60% mark. Without fiddling...

803 Bogs Down and dies at 85% Load

Interesting. I've never calculated it that way. (Obviously I was "missing something") I'm coming at the generator stuff from a different perspective. I learned electricity as an offshoot of welding. I've only used Ohms for calculating the current carrying capacity of cables. For a field...

803 Bogs Down and dies at 85% Load

Ohm? Amps, or am I missing something?
