Simp is about 100 miles behind me.
Some things Wes gets backwards- he's the one doing me a favor, so I should be buying lunch. Instead Wes bought the BBQ. The ribs were good.
And I went from having zero spare tires to having three.
Fan cycling on and off like it should. Sun went down and the temp dropped and the frequency and duration of "fan on" decreased.
14.5mpg is better than I expected. This includes idling on start up and idling before shut down.
I'm running 40psi in the tires. This seems like a good compromise...
I'll make timing convenient.....it won't be 0200. That's a carnac thing, lol....
Pics from today's Walmart stop. Got in about 400miles today. HMMWV running fine, cruising 55ish. 191miles on 13.2 gallons of fuel.
I'd have more pics, but the phone died. Hopefully I'll do better tomorrow.....
Yeah, it is somewhat pronounced isn't it? Similarly startling in a 5ton.
By the way, I anticipate stopping for the night in Springfield tomorrow evening. I have some more of those cargo covers that don't fit your truck.... :)
Two noobs both saw it and each decided he was going to get it at all cost. They each figured they'd be one bid above a good price.... and so it continued until the price went way high and eventually one of them ran out of funds.
Departing KS 21 AUG, stopping by Wes's in Memphis and picking up a spare wheel and tire. Proceeding to Mobile AL and picking up a welder on a small trailer, continuing on to Valdosta GA.
The HMMWV in question is a garden variety M998 with the gutless turd of a 6.2 and 3 speed. I'll be cruising...
The welding leads used are 15'. Slave cables are typically 12' and 20'.
It's a relevant comparison due to the same cable diameter, and the fact that in welding you know exactly what the amperage is. From this we know that 200ish amps doesn't heat 2/0 cable, but slaving a vehicle quickly does...
I concede you may know something I don't.
Here's some relevant experience i have -
Welding with 2/0 cable all day at 225 amps and the cables don't get warm.
Slaving a 5ton truck using slave cables made from 2/0 cable and they're too hot to touch after just a bit of cranking.
Batteries are...
Consider not just the current when slaving the hmmwv and its relatively modest requirements. Consider also if someone were to slave a bigger vehicle from the hmmwv.
1000amps seems not unrealistic and perhaps not sufficient...
I tend to keep (939 and 809 series) trucks 4000-5000 miles and sell them. In all the trucks I've driven I've had exactly one major issue.
One truck I picked up from auction in Indianapolis and drove almost 6000miles in a single trip before handing off in phoenix. No issues.
I've put about...
