Newly purchased an M35A2 - trailer/towbar? Houston Area

Emphasis added - your pickup truck will pull it fine, but won't even begin to stop it. Put it on a gooseneck trailer with brakes and you'd be fine. Attempt to tow it with a towbar and what will happen when you hit the brakes is the ABS will activate, but almost no braking force will be applied...

    So just bought a M818

I really like the tractor wheelbase with the short cargo bed. It makes more of a difference than you'd think it would. Closer in maneuverability to a one ton pickup than to a 5ton cargo variant.

5 ton questions help a newbie out

Not to turn this into a for sale ad (and I'll be happy to delete this if anyone thinks it crosses the line), but my M818 is still available in AZ with a clean transferable AZ title. Turbo, 16.00's, hard top.....

    M35a2 Cab top

I've seen them with a metal insert and hole cut. I have one of the inserts I'm going to use as a template for cutting a soft top to go with my LWS. Im in AZ and it's in KS. I have pics somewhere with a tape measure. I'll post them if I can find them.

    GL and SF97 issues

I suspect that they blanketed every email they had with a form letter. That's what mine was - one size fits all "hey we plan to close our titling office". It doesn't surprise me not everyone got it.

    What hitch for a M105A1?

The jeep is lifted and on 35's. Not a recommended practice.....

Pretty sure my air packs shot.......

I had similar problems on an air pack on a truck I was selling recently. I went with new, mostly due to timeline. There shouldn't be a big difference.

    I'm confused on tire sizes.

    You can't mix 395s and 14.00's.

    GL and SF97 issues

When GL lost the rolling stock contract they sent out a notice for everyone to request an SF97 who needed one as they were only going to provide them for a limited time. This was something over three years ago. My understanding is GL closed their titling office in Phoenix. At this point I...

5 ton questions help a newbie out

Make sure it's a title and not an SF97. The SF97 is only good for the initial transfer. XL tires are to be avoided, especially on the steer axle. At the price you mentioned, any decently running decent condition M931A2 is worth that *if* it has a title. I'm highly suspicious that he didn't...

5 ton questions help a newbie out

You're describing an M931A2. There's a big long list of things to check, but first and foremost is whether the seller has a title in his name. Not an SF97, not a bill of sale, but an actual state issued title.

    Rear square drive studs

The 5ton combat wheels or the LMTV wheels either one will be fine with the standard lugnuts and wheel studs. HEMTT rims would require offset lugnuts or longer wheelstuds. What size tires do you plan to use?

    Rear square drive studs

Which wheels are you planning to use?

    Rear square drive studs

Do not use the rear thimbles. Use lug nuts like you have on the front. Using thimbles on the back is unsafe. I've seen it done, but they aren't designed for singles and can break.

Did have a Deuce down, Southern Arizona

I'm just now seeing this. Probably want to post similar future situations in the conversations forum. That said, it's happened to me a couple of times. I got "read the TM" instead of a bolt size. Nothing like being dead on the side of the road in a 24v vehicle with 6% charge on the phone and...

    What hitch for a M105A1?

Minimal lift, 34" tires, and a custom fabricated rear bumper that gets the pintle up without putting torque on the frame rails. There's a couple of thousand lbs of steel in the bed in this picture, or it'd be closer to dead level. On your suburban, a 4" lift with 37''s and a smallish...

Who is selling adapter plates now?

My understanding was that plasma cutting was insufficiently precise and water jet was the solution. The last truck we put on singles we sourced the adapter plates off ebay, with some hesitation... but they seem just fine.

    What hitch for a M105A1?

It's neither safe nor legal , but the hitch and riser at tractor supply will work. The issue you're going to have is that the trailer is 2750lbs empty and has airbrakes. You'll be towing it with a non airbrake vehicle. ABS makes it worse, not better.(this is all NA if it has been converted to...
