Soni......I and a partner are in negotiations to buy the place. Right now there are no plans for anything specific. With the supply of cheap 5 tons around here I was thinking of refurbishing trucks for the timber industry, firefighting, and another project I can't discuss now. Doing custom work...

As much as I liked my deuces the 5 tons are a big step up in comfort, maintainence and style.

But it's a lot easier to pull the pan when the truck is laying on it's side.:burn:

I'll see your oppressively humid, bug infested Florida and raise you a killer shop.

It will be heated in the summer and cool in the winter.....but it will be indoors out of the elements......you won't have to wait for the snow to melt to continue the project.

Soni....if I could provide you with a couple of thousand square feet of indoor workspace for cheap would you consider a move out this way? I may have need for a master fabricator for a "skunkworks".

Does it have the double frame? You could mount all types of cranes, knuckle boom loaders, etc back there or make it a dump if you could find the right body. Get some HEMMT rims and 1400x20 tires to solve the overwidth problem.

I've never heard of removing a gear out of a transmission to make it a "tow vehicle". Sounds like the tranny is FUBAR and the owner is trying to palm off his abortion on someone that doesn't know any better. There are plenty of good trucks out there that you can customize to suit your own needs...

Lowball the crap out of him......around 3K.....you can always go up. The crane is worth the price of admission.

There are several TM's that cover tracked and wheeled vehicle recovery operations. There used to be a "Vehicle Recovery and Evacuation" course for Army wrecker drivers to attend. If you are going to use a winch or field expeident techniques to recover a vehicle reading one or more of them is not...

I think I have some of those steps (last pic) left if anyone is interested.
