FLU419 SEE HMMH HME Owners group

Thankfully, in those days they were given to me for testing purposes. But based on my findings I have bought several Optimas and desulphating gizmos since. No, all FLUs are definitely not the same. That's why I can't get to the fuel lines on top of the tank, or get the tank out for that matter...

Finding a replacement switch was easy. Where I failed was in figuring out how to get that panel out, or out of the way, to get to the cable connections. Especially with that useless, large bundle of wires for the diagnostic plug in place. The plate is clearly set up to remain in place when the...

I was thinking about making a quick attach setup for the backhoe, making it possible to use the pallet forks on it, but here's a commercially available adapter that would allow putting the backhoe's bucket on the loader (if you have the quick attach). That's not what it's meant for, but it...

Please let me know how you went about getting that panel out when you're done. While I have the cab tilt brackets (bought primarily so that they would never be needed) I'm not about to lift the cab to get to that switch. Especially not when it's so easy to wire in a parallel one.

Agree 100%. There's very good Unimog info to be found elsewhere, but I don't think that this place can be beat when in comes to FLU knowledge.

The line going into the cooler is surprisingly cool to the touch when the fans are on, but get in the habit of feeling it every now and then if you don't trust the fans or their temp sensor. At some point I'll install an override switch on that forward little box where the sensor lives. For now...

SEE tires - running fronts backwards for road use

It's suggested that R1 ag tires are run "in reverse" for better tread life on pavement, so it makes sense that any chevron pattern would benefit from it. There's another reason for running the fronts backwards; when/if you get the SEE into a compromised situation and need to back out of trouble...

Did you oil you differential lock cylinders on your SEE?

Uh, no, I did not. What I did do was to pull the drain plugs, and one (out of six) did let out a few drops of water. One or two had a few drops of oil inside. When (if) I do get around to adding oil, I'll do my best to put it in from the top...if the paint allows it.

Yeah, it's a light yellow, right? A few on my Formerly (well, since it refuses to keep running, it's back to "parts SEE", formerly known as Formerly) are that color. Can't remember what I used, but WD-40 should work. After all, it has to be good for something, other than bug splatter removal. If...

Congratulations! It's great when things that weren't supposed to work, according to GP, do in real life. I'd do some cleaning around the seals on the backhoe cylinders, clean off the rods, and put a bit of oil at the seals before trying to use the backhoe. Had I done that, it may have prevented...

That's quite low. Should be closer to 12.7.

Need Door and Hood for FLU419

jbs123, please keep in mind that we're not trying to discourage you, but presenting you the real world of SEE ownership. It's often a very bumpy road. Not that it really matters, since a SEE is softly sprung and very slow.

As you know, that battery connector is the (far) more affordable "civilian version" of the NATO plug. I've used them for winches, on tractors with hard to access batteries, and in many other applications. This one was installed primarily to enable jump starting the Pete with the trailer (which...

    M1008 1009 differentials

Wow. I guess I can stop considering myself anal about torque specs. I would've never thought to use a torque wrench on a diff cover.

Need Door and Hood for FLU419

Congrats! I was eyeballing those two SEEs myself. Anyway, you might have to dig around for a hood as they're SEE/MMHM specific, or get a fiberglass one from Expedition Imports, which I did. It'll require some modifications, but for the SEE it's going on it doesn't matter. I've seen steel hoods...

Using my SEE for real work

Up or nothing?!? What about down...I thought you had a backhoe. How hard could it be to dig the floor area down a foot or two? Then you could install a heated floor while you're at it. Keeps the tools nice and warm when working under a vehicle.

Using my SEE for real work

Tires could very well make the difference, peakbagger, and if I get the parts SEE to run reliably this weekend it'd be an opportune moment to try its bias tires on the road. Of course, That'd be comparing the HMMH (which handles better anyway) on radials to a SEE on bias tires, so it might be a...

Using my SEE for real work

Welcome, and I hope you got a good SEE. Or at least one that the rats haven't modified too badly. I still cringe when thinking of General Hood's and others descriptions of their wiring wars. Kubota vs. SEE? Now you got me thinking. Having a couple of each I'm not so sure I'd give up the Kubotas...

Most of them are used as starting batteries, some are "floaters" and used as needed, and only four are in use in an application even close to "home wind/solar installation".Pictured are the ones in the Peterbilt, right after installation some 17 years ago. The extensions at the ends of the...

Hmm, got the altitude and corresponding thin air, plus relatively frequent lightning. Sounds like the easy way to get rid of the diagnostic system would be to park the SEE on a hill, with the backhoe facing all the way up, and just wait. Instead of taking that battery to recycling, you could...
