According to Joules Law power (P) = volts (V) x amps (A). Rearranging the formula to P/V=A you get 1.5 / 12 or .125 amps. This isn't enough to do serious damage to your batteries but it isn't a good idea to leave any charger connected to a battery permanantly. Solargizers are an exception...
grounding cable
The grounding cable is simple to make with some 8 gauge wire and some T&B terminal lugs. The ground harness runs from the ground bolt on the alternator housing to one of the bolts that holds the PCB in place. From there is runs over to the bonding point on the body (straight in...
Bjorn,
These worked out great for the HMMWV and 151 dash. I don't know if it was necessary or not but I did put a drop of silicon on them to seal the lamps an little better. They worked out great in the dash but were a little too bright for the turn signal switch at night.

alternators
The 60 amp Prestolite / Leece-Neville units are the ones most commonly found in todays M series vehicles. They're made by Southern Automotive and they will sell units and parts to the public. Here's a link to their website:

Radio frequencies
Gentlemen,
The radio frequencies posted here 59.75, 61.75, and 71.75 were the frequencies we used to use to check the receivers in the VRC-12 series of radio all the time. When the FCC moved everything to digital braodcasting a few years back these frequencies became useless...
I had problems with my keypad too when I first got the 1439. I took the keypad off and cleaned it with a little isopropyl alcohol. Worked fine afterwards. Find a salvaged front panel and play with the keypad to get a feel for how to do it. You might check with Steve Haney up in Godley for a...
Ledwholesalers
Try this one and then search 12/24 or 12-30v to find what you need. Sorry I didn't get back to this sooner. The lamps used in the dash panels have 9s bases. This means they're 9mm in diameter with a single contact pin. The tail lamps are all 15S or 15D based lamps. S for...
I've used a 2299 retrans box on the dash of my 151 for years to act as a connect point for the handset and an amplified speaker. It also allows me to switch between the VRC-12 and a mounted PRC-660 UHF radio. The system works fine. I don't know why your 671 shouldn't work in the same manner...
Bruce,
Unless you can find one surplus I'd suggest just finding a new MX-7777. Circuit breakers have gone through the roof like almost everything else today. I had to purchase a 100 amp breaker for a piece of equipment I was working on and instead of costing around $100 like I expected...
Absolutely the easiest way to forget all the issues relating to 12 volt or 24 volt bulbs is to simple invest a few dollars more and replace the lamps with LED lamps that will work over a 10 to 30 volt range. They're available for almost every socket configuration, single pin, dual pin, large...
If you're looking for military manuals this site may be able to help you. The manuals they have listed cover almost every topic.

If your batteries are fully charged the truck will run for hours on them. After starting, the only thing that uses power in a diesel are the brake lights if everything else is off. I drove mine home 70 miles with a dead alternator without any problems.
BTW, the serial number plate on the body is worthless because it's rivetted on and most of the auto auction HMMWVs had them removed and then one was handed to the buyer. There was no effort made to insure the plate given was the original. A lot of the USMC trucks had the data plate rivetted to...
The deal could be legitimate but depending on the state you live in and the DMV rules, it might not be worth the hastle. In California most of us who have registered a HMMWV have taken in whatever paperwork available along with weight and brake inspection documents (if a new construction) a...
Mike,
Keep in mind when you get that sand blast cabinet going that sand will also remove the anodizing from the aluminum of the case and any scratches will expose the aluminum to corrosion. Stripping is the preferred method even though it's more time consuming for home jobs. If you do...
I had a guy call me looking for an "expert" on installing 151 engines into M38s! Clueless as to basic mechanical issues he thought as long as it would fit it would work. After about a year he got it motivating and then wondered why the speedometer didn't work. Never thought about what...
