    Form 97 with purchase?

I just bought a nice 101A3 at Sierra AD and was not given a Form 97 when it was picked up. Now GLwants to charge me $60 for the Form 97. Since that particular From 97 only has relevance to me, the original purchaser and was turned over to GL with the trailer, why should I have to pay an...

    M101A2 violent braking!

I've found the 101s will do this empty but with some weight in the trailer they usually settle down and run smoothly. If I tow it empty I leave the actuator pin in the coupler and don't have the problem. Kurt

    SF97 on the M116A3 question

Warren, If the trailer was sold by GL theoretically the only person who can get the Form 97 is the original purchaser. If that's you then they will hit you up for $60 for it. If you are not the original buyer then he will have to apply for it. I don't know if having the sale and item...

    Boarding ladder mounts

Nick, I'd just leave the tabs on the ladder flat and and set it on the lowerlip of the tailgate. Then use the close line tensioners that came with the boarding ladder originally and hook them to the shackles to keep the ladder in place. Kurt

    waterpump question

water pumps The early 6.2 diesels had v belts while the later 6.5s had serpentine belts. The water pumps look alike but are reversed in their rotation and will not interchange. Kurt

    Cool Tools Forum?

Would it be practical to add a Cool Tools forum to SS? It would be educational for people new to the hobby and save a lot of time for those of us still doing things the old way. There are new tools being introduced all the time and some of them are real time savers or make jobs so much...

    Are they really worth it?

Rolex vs Casio? Asking if a HMMWV is really worth it is like asking if a Rolex is better than a Casio? Or if a Ferrari is better than a Yugo? Mostly what it boils down to is can you afford it? And how badly did the bug get you? Like most MVs, the HMMWV is basic transportation. You can...

    Removing traces of gov liquidation

Does anybody have a good way to remove that ##@$@# grease pencil government liquuidation uses to mark their items? I've tried paint thinner, lacquer thinner, toluene, mineral spirits, alcohol, gasoline and every other solvent I can think of with no luck. Once it gets onto CARC paint it seems...

    M101A1 / A2 wheels

The M101 and A1 trailers used the 5 lug Budd split rims like the M37 but aren't interchangable with the A2's 8 lug wheels. You can mount HMMWV wheels and tires on the A2's 8 lug axles but they're pretty close to the body. I used some spacers to move them out about 3/8" and solved that...

    Give me a brake!!!!!!!

There's a ratchetting gear assembly on the top of the actuator that moves the cylinder if the attached chain gets pulled by the trailer coming loose from the pintle hook. By pulling on the chain you can actuate the cylinder by hand to bleed the brakes. You'll need to use a screwdriver to lift...

G.I. Robo tool set.... what to offer?

I had some discussions with the folks at Robo Tools and they told me the 1/2" drive units that look like a milwaukie sawsall was designed for the HMMWV toolkit and the 3/4" tool with the right angle handle on it was for the Bradleys. The first ones I got had bad planetary gears inside and...

    Which radio for the HMMWV?

DoctorCheney, There's a whole lot of great information posted here and being a radio guy I found some of it to be new and very interesting but I think we missed the point of your original posting. When trying to decide what radio to put in your vehicle the first thing you need to think about...

CARC paint;how to remove-yet another question...

OK gentlemen, I've read all the postings and it seems like everyone is stripping CARC off of steel. What do you do for an aluminum HMMWV? AM General's quality control obviously didn't make it down the hallway to the paint department. There's not an ounce of primer on the body. Where the CARC is...

Looking to buy a HMMWV, What do i look for?

CAPSARME, Your original posting asked what to look for and stay away from when looking for a HMMWV. There's been a lot of commentary here that doesn't really address your original question. The slant backs look cool but have no rearward visibility, leak like seives, and are noisey and hot...

    101 rear leg

There seem to be a number of different designs on the rear legs over the years. I've had them with round bases and square bases and with different latching mechanisms to keep them up. The round foot design allows you to adjust the height more easily that the square foot model and the...

    M101A_ Underbed spare tire rack?

Has anyone on the list every seen a good design for an underbed spare tire rack on an M101 series trailer? I really don't want to add all the weight up front with a tongue mounted spare. TIA, Kurt Lesser
