kickdown switch
George,
I've never seen anything in the manual that shows the kickdown solenoid in the trans but it is in the TH400 manual from GM. One of these days I'll get around to creating a .pdf file I can send out.

Pat,
The fact that the gauge moves at all is an indication that power is getting to it. On my crew cab the sending unit float had pinholed and never lifted with the fuel level and the reading always stayed at empty. If you can get to the wire on the sending unit, momentarily ground it...
If you can get the vehicle to a transmission shop they can test the pump output pressure to see if thats the problem. The torque converter connects the engine to the trans and then inputs that power to the pump in the trans. The pressure produced by the pump is what makes the whole enchilada...
I've always carried the standard equipment in all of my military vehicles. The HMMWV ambulance has not only the larger fire extunguisher but also most of the common med supplies it would have carried. The other vehicles just have the generic first aid kits.
While I've never had to use the...
It's never a good idea to disconnect an alternator from the battery with the engine running unless you have a spare on the shelf.
Most modern military vehicles use a voltmeter to indicate if a system is charging or not. If the system is healthy this works fine. The internal resistance of a...
The 997s have their own special circuitry for mask heaters, rear heater, and the AC unit but the balance of the vehicle is standard 24 volt stuff and isn't hard to find with the number of units in the military. It's nice to have a dual voltage alternator in the truck because it opens up the...
A note when using the MX-6707 for CBs. The matching units will work and the best way to find the sweet spot for tuning is with a simple forward/reflected power meter available at Rat Shack or most CB shops. Put it inline with the coax to the antenna and key up the radio. Rotate the tuning...
Unfortunately your question about TV channels to listen to came in a little too late. When the FCC mandated broadcasters going digital last year it killed any TV listening you would have been able to do.
Normally when I fired up a radio the first thing I did was to tune 59.75, 61.75, or...
I've been running standard HMMWV wheels and tires on my M101A2 for years without any problems. When I first installed them I noticed how close the wheels were to the wheel wells on the trailer and added some 3/8" spacers I bought on eBay. They went right on and allowed me to use the original...
I do know an individual in California who bought a PLGR off of eBay and was visited by CID folks who confiscated the GPS. The sad part about it is that as a GPS, the PLGR is difficult to operate, the display sucks and the battery life is surprisingly short. Even if it is the green variant...
Does anyone on the list have a manual I can beg, borrow, steal, or copy on the PRC-117D? I can scan it and send the original plus a digital copy back. Please contact by PM.
Thanks,

Since these older ISA bus computers I stuffed a Winradio card into one and used the ethernet BNC as the antenna input. I now have a cool looking wide range radio scanner inside. It would be nice to get one with a color display but the mono units work fine.

I just picked up one of the new Bose Triport tactical headsets and it has the same miserable bailout connector on it. The nice thing is is that it has active noise reduction and comfortable earpads. They'll work with anything a U229 connector will fit on. This means most mil radios and all of...
The Military Vehicle Collectors of California will be hosting their annual April 2010 Camp Delta meet at the Tower Park KOA campground from 18 April until the 25th. The largest military vehicle meet west of the Mississippi, we typically have 200+ military vehicles at the event plus a huge swap...

Running an VRC-90 in the HMMWV ambulance, a VRC-12 in the 151, a PRC-128 for a mobile and a either a PRC-660 or a PRC-75 for 70cm. 2M is all done with a 127.
