Well, you already know it is (was?) an M1008. Needed a stouter tow vehicle than the one I was using to pull a 10-foot dump trailer, which didn't really like pulling a full load of dirt.
Also wanted a yard goat of sorts.
The choices were to cut the sheet metal off the rear of my M1009 or shorten...
I wouldn't even dream about towing a gooseneck trailer with a receiver and ball mount. Or, maybe I would do it.
But only if I didn't have a proper gooseneck hitch yet.
That winch mount on Dirt Every Day was likely the one Fred Williams built for his M1008. Chances are that he also wrote about it in 4-Wheel & Off Road.
I'm way too far behind on magazine reading to know, but he sent me photos of the winch mount when he built it and it looked very nice. Knowing...
If you get a SEE you get a Case 580C. It's a very capable backhoe, and I'd say that the main drawback is that you can't work the backhoe from the drivers seat.
Since I'm no expert at running a backhoe, it would comfort me if I could swing it and use the hoe as a counterweight when in precarious...
Tatra, they may look like new, but be prepared to fix a few things. Lack of use often leads to leaky cylinder seals, for example.
Also, 24,5K sounds high to me, even if it is 100%. Of course, it largely depends on what you want to use the SEE for. Personally I favor good mechanicals over...
I drain the tanks, disassemble the cylinders, valves, and pump, then clean the parts with denatured alcohol. The hoses are sent to a place that cleanses them chemically.
Then I reassemble the components in a dust free room, much like what large computer systems are in.
Okay, not really. But I...
If you can make it here, there's no real need for having a licensed vehicle. The cops are used to seeing strange ex-military machinery on the streets and roads.
You'd have to come up with something weirder than Soni Honegger's contraptions to get their attention.
Not that I mind driving 64 - it's a nice road, especially in a sports car. But a "short cut" would be nicer yet when in an MV. PM me a phone number, let me know what you have in mind and I'll try to research this end of it.
Unfortunately, the ranger station is right by the lake here. And I'm...
Hey, you're just over the hill from me.
Fishing? Well, I have considered running the snow blower on the FLU419 through the river this spring and find out how much fish it could fling out.
There's a lake down the road, but I don't think the rangers would allow that kind of fishing there.
A torch might work here in the USA, but not in England. There one would have to try 50/50 acetone and ATF (a penetrant which 10 years later I still haven't tried after reading about how it handily beat all the commercially available alternatives) or a nut splitter. The latter I have used...
911, I never even thought about buying such things used, but tomorrow I can let you know what the numbers are on the ones I bought somewhat recently. Might even find the receipt for them.
I got the model numbers off a tool (not all that easy to read), looked at various sites to ensure that the...
Jubilations! After creating a berm with the plow, there was just enough snow to try out the snow blower. It worked.
While far from a real test, it did fling the little snow it could consume. Enough so that some of it ended up back on the roof it had fallen off of.Sorry, no action photo - the...
Brian, here you go. Float is a useful feature that I use on the tractor somewhat frequently, good for spreading/back dragging and such.
Don't think I ever used it on the SEE, except to allow the loader to conform to the leaky tires, but that's because I'm less bad at loader work with the tractor.
Thilo, my first thought was that the levers physically affect each other, but the fact that you had the cylinders off makes me rethink that.
Air in the system, maybe?
Brian, the loader lever has four positions. Normally it sits in "neutral", then there are the up and down positions. If you push the lever down some more from the down position you'll feel that there's a fourth notch. It's kind of the opposite of the neutral position and lets the loader move...
