The air scoop for the heater is backwards. They may have reversed it to keep the rain out, but this is not the way it was supposed to be installed. Nice looking truck...
I've had a few non-turbo deuces. Some were dogs...some were strong runners. I think it depends upon the engine. I personally don't mind them, but some people don't like them because of the lack of the turbo whistle.
I believe your truck is a 1971. I have an M817 manufactured in 1971 and there is a "71" in the VIN, too. By the way, the third digit is probably a letter. Mine is something like "04C."
This topic has been debated before. My opinion...these trucks will be drying up eventually. We can debate what "eventually means. Regardless, if there is a truck near you and you like it, ante up and get it.
JWALLER is correct...even if you are not driving a truck a lot, the oil the should still be regularly changed. The data plate on the dash says to change the oil every 3,000 miles, unless you are operating in an extreme environment in which case you would need to change it more frequently.

Where exactly is Glen Arm, MD? I am in MD and have never heard of it. I am in MD and would enjoy talking trucks some time. I've owned many, many M35s over the years. I believe it was around 20 M35s the last time I counted! Contact me...I'd be happy to share everything I know.
If you find one, expect to pay over $1K if it can handle potable water. I bought one on GL for $909 (plus tax and the 10% fee). I also bought one retail for $1,200.
There really is no way to answer this question accurately. I've gotten trucks for as little as $700 and I've lost trucks that I've bid up to $5,700. If someone else has a crush on "your" truck, expect to pay heavily for it. The best recommendation I can give you is don't get too hung up on a...
I try...but, unfortunately, the trucks are coming out too quickly and I don't have enought money. This is probably going to be it for me for a while. I've said it before, but I mean it this time (I think)...I've got three trucks that are not even home yet.
