I just replaced all the wheel cylinders in mah deuce, and I would like to switch from DOT 5 to DOT 4. I bought/built a pressure-bleeder and a gallon of DOT 4 brake fluid this morning, but I just read about DOT 4 and 5 fluid mixing and turning to jelly. I was planning on using the...
I got one of those little harbor freight cranes too. I'm planning on mounting bases for it in a few different places, like the rack over my cab and inside my trailer, so I can move it around to lift whatever/wherever.
I'm pretty sure I've seen a few wheels with the plates mounted on the OUTSIDE face of the split where the two wheel halves bolt together, and then Donk's wheels are using deuce centers welded into the shell (which will obviously affect the backspacing). But otherwise, yeah. They should all be...
Oh man, I got excited for a minute. I've been looking for some narrow one-piece 20" wheels with the right offset to run singled. If I didn't already have tires, I'd seriously think about running those and stepping up to 22.5's. That would be a cool setup.
Thanks guys. I used the muriatic acid again, then neutralized it with baking soda, and then dunked all the parts in motor-oil. Parts look great. I'll know in a few days whether or not they rust again...
The guys at the radiator shop where I had my fuel tank cleaned/coated told me to use muriatic acid to clean all the small parts (fuel pump & fuel level sending unit). That worked great, except that those parts rusted immediately afterwards, and now they look much worse than they did before...
I would like to hear more about this. Do they generate electricity? Oh boy, oh boy. If they do, I'm SO interested. I would love to be able to add regenerative braking to my M109 motorhome conversion. Maybe start another thread and post a link, or send me a PM? Thanks!
When the engine is off, a full-hydro system is going to function just like any other power-steering system with mechanical linkage. You can still steer, you're just pushing fluid through the lines manually. So I don't think any of the performance-based requirements would be a problem. I'm...
I was talking about full-hydro steering, and was only making a comparison to lift kits in order to illustrate a point. I was hoping that you'd be able to point me to something specific. I haven't read those DOT standards, but I know that many people have - and to-date, nobody has found anything...
Can you please cite something specific? I'd just like to know if indeed I am wrong, and I'd like to be able to share any reference you provide with other people I know that would be equally interested.
Yeah, there are some specific rules related to lift kits and bumpers and other modifications...
...and I've gotta dispute the likelihood of failure in a mechanical vs. hydraulic system. What makes hydraulic hoses any more prone to failure? It's all about proper engineering. A good system isn't going to put those hoses in harm's way, and those hoses are TOUGH. What else is there to worry...
More importantly, nobody has ever been able to cite a specific rule that makes full-hydro steering illegal (somebody posted a $ bounty on pirate years ago that has never been claimed). Full-hydro steering isn't any more or less illegal than any other modification that could be deemed unsafe...
