As I understand it the reason there is a flange on the rear axle is so they did not have to have two different axles on the rear....if you needed to replace an axle you could use either rear axle off a parts truck or order a new axle and not have to worry about getting the wrong one.

Anybody got a pic of pritchie"s truck......he had a full sized bed but he had modded the rear of it so he could pull a 5th wheel camper. It looked factory.
Since you will be using them "as intended" you should read and re-read the TM's to get familiar with the truck.
One issue I remember from Fort Benning is that the transmission bolts were prone to back out if they were not retorqued occasionally.

What would be more realistic (fab wise) would be to use a big electric motor to run the trailer.

Years ago before truckstops got fancy and had private showers the facilities were much like a school locker room in some of them.

That may mean engine oil.........the fording plug is ahead of the transmission. Could be rear main seal........keep an eye on it. If the clutch starts slipping you may have to spray brake cleaner up in there to keep the clutch operating until you get home.
