This is the story of my CUCV 12V glow plug conversion.

The pump really needs to be pulled to change out those shaft seals. Think of it this way. If those seals are leaking from being 25 years old, how are the plastic pieces inside the pump doing? Might as well just pull it once, get the IP redone or replaced and then go back to not giving the...

    Smokes White and no start

Slave starting. If the firewall mounted glow plug resistor is removed or bypassed. It is still ok to slave start the truck as long as the front battery has 12 volts or more. Basically, have at least one good battery of the two and make sure it is the front one. If both are bad, do the two...

Scavenging Fuel - Can a Deuce Do It?

24 Volt diaphram operated transfer pumps will run off the truck and move anything from gear oil to gasoline. The gear pumps at TSC say they are only rated for gasoline and diesel. They say no oil! The SBC oil pump thing works fine but is slow. Blocking off the relief valve as they suggest...

    1100X20 Spare tire

The spare tire carrier was designed for 11.00-20 tires. The M34 was the first vehicle in the series and it had 11.00 tires from the start. Since you are prepping for a long recovery. Buy a glad hand, quick connects and such that you need to hook an air hose to the passenger rear trailer air...

    Help please starting problems

Start with what the manuals say to start with. Are both your batteries fully charged? Have them load tested to make sure they are good. Have you checked all the battery wires for clean connections and power? Have you read the troubleshooting section of the -20?

What’s the secret to get the started off

Could your bendix or gear drive be stuck out and still contacting the flywheel? That would keep it from being able to come free. Bolt it back up and turn the engine over with a wrench on the front of the crank. When you hear the drive gear come back, unbolt it and don't let it hit you on the...

What’s the secret to get the started off

Are you asking about a stock 230 engine starter motor removal? Undo the wire, pull the two bolts and it will fall on your head if you wiggle with it enough. Actually, I do them from the top just so they won't fall on my head.

    M1009 Towing Mileage?

Here is my documented mileage from a trip a few months ago. M1009 pulling a 1300 pound M101A2 with about 500-1000 pounds of gear loaded in the trailer and the truck. I drove 248 miles at gps regulated 60-62 mph in one run. Fuel station to fuel station. 17.8 mpg. The return trip was over some...

    1952 M35 REO in Progress

Been there done that. I was looking for a picture a while ago and found the one of me painting my 1952 Gasser bare frame on New years Eve 2007. Nothing beats a Gasser for pure mechanical coolness and mechanical noise going down the road.

    Improving fuel mileage?

How fast are you going on the highway? Keep the engine below 2200 rpm and you should be around 20 mpg. Keep it below 2000 rpm and you should be up near 23 or more. Measure your tires actual size and plug that into a ratio calculator to figure out what speed crosses over to the rpms...

    Vacuum Lines - Missing Components

Sounds like you have it figured out. Mine will shift hard and late if I just ease up to 35 mph. If I am in the power, it shifts nice and smooth. The 1-2 shift is about like you describe.

Battery wires almost catch fire on CUCV

Do the above and check the condition of the rear battery. If it is bad, the starter won't turn very fast and all the load will go to the front battery.
