If you want to double your mileage, sell the 250 engine and install the Cummins 8.3L. Mileage in the M939 series trucks goes from approx 4mpg to 10mpg when they made this change. Not sure of anything else that is able to double your mileage like that.

By moving to twin oil squirt tubes for piston cooling, with no oil pump capacity upgrade, you are likely not spraying said oil as far up under the skirt of the piston as intended. Maybe no big, but just sayin'.

The original alternator has a reputation for self destruction if under full load most of the time, such as trying to charge a bad battery. Point here is to check your batteries. If you burned 2, then this may be your case. The Delco clone alternators seem to be working well for people here...

With gasoline engines, you reduce fuel and air to reduce engine output. Spark timing can also be reduced with a gasoline engine to reduce engine torque, as is done during the up-shifting with automatic transmissions.
