There has been a ton of 395's coming out of Redstone....they are mounted on oddball rims but they could prob be recentered for less than you would pay for HEMMT rims (and they would still have to be recentered too).
The lots last week sold for around $450.00 per tire after GL's blood money and...
Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.......the tire will be very difficult to mount and dismount....it will also bow out in the middle and give you a very narrow footprint at speed.
Wider rims without the ring would be better.
If you lube up the linkage real good you can split shift the 5 ton just like you can the duece......if you know how to do it right it's like having two extra gears.
One of my van trailers has the pioneer rack mounted up on the front.
Yes there is a door on the tractor side of the trailer. It was used to gain access to the big arsed AC unit that I scrapped out of it.
Must have been a real PITA to grab a tool if the trailer had been dropped.:cookoo:
That is the rule at Redstone......I was told it was the same at all sites now....as I stated some sites will cut you some slack depending on how well they know you and your demeanor.
There were mulit-fuel 5 tons. I had a M52 tractor but it would not pull a greasy string out of a fat cat's azz......IMHO they were underpowered to do what was asked of them.
If you just want one for a toy they are cool....if you want a working truck get a deuce or 800 series five ton.
The best thing you can do is to establish a good relationship with the GL site employees where you do business. Make sure you read all the GL info on the site concerning previewing, bidding, making payment and picking up you goods.
If you make an appointment to pick up or preview be there or...
This is only an opinion but I was in the Army when the M151, M37, Gamma Goat and other old school vehicles were standard issue so I have seen a lot of vehicles come and go.
Back in the 80's the gooberment bought the Chrysler K-cars and Dodge 800 series Pickup trucks to help bail the company...
It has a history......the former owners wife decreed that it be removed from the property and my buddy got the call to haul it and all of the other "junk" off. As far as I know there was nothing else OD green in all the stuff they hauled in.
I just happened to be at the right place at the...
Now that you mention it...........would look good on a bobbed deuce frame (if you could shoehorn the multi-fuel into it).
Hummmmm.....just make the front end all one piece and make it a tilt hood.
I'm just full of good ideas (well.......I'm full of something).
Ask David Doyle about long trips in M123's......one of the funniest things I ever heard about driving them. As far as I know he still has one in his collection.
There is a guy near me that was in an Armor Unit in the AL National Guard way back when they had the M60 tanks and M123's to haul...
A few weeks ago I was at my favorite scrap yard....took a load in and collected the cash......I needed a piece of plate steel for a project and since my buddy owns the place he told me to go look for what I needed.........I saw this sticking out of a pile of stuff and I was on it like a hobo on...
My guess is that they took in the area to the left of the present camp ground (if you are looking from our site). We have not spilled over that far yet........Mike usually rents the two last spaces adjacent to our spot so we will have water and power for the MKT.
One idea would be for SS folks...
