Funny that this thread mentioned the "visible" smoke when looked at in night time. We drove the Whistler to the Scout meeting Tuesday evening. When backing it back in at home, Colton yells out as we are passing under the security light: "Dad! the truck is really smoking for some reason." I...
Look in the resource section and I am pretty sure there is a winching guide. Aimed more at the M35 size, but pretty much all of the info transfers over. If not, I know there is a PS article about winch use.
It is easier to feel than it is to see. Mine is just below the starter solenoid. Mine was plugged up also. So, once you do find it, remove it all the way to get any crud laying around back there out.
Load it full of something, pack a lunch and go drive 100 miles or so at full throttle (2300-2600 rpm). When you get done, the truck will sound happy and if it could, be wagging its tail like a just played with puppy. Your smoke should be gone by the time you get done and the idle will probalby...
Glad you got it titled and on the road.
As stated above, idle speed, fuel filters, air filter and the shut off all need to be right. Mine when I got it would go great until I had it at speed for more than 30 minutes. Then it would die if I pushed in the clutch. Fire right back up if I gave...
The cab has rubber spacers on the front with tear drop shaped bumps stop looking things on the back that screw into the bottom of the cab and touch the frame. This thread is about the bed to frame wood spacer that has all the holes in it so the tops of the rivets holding the rear suspension on...
I would love to come up there Lincoln. However, both of my M35's and probably my M715 too are committed to a parade here in Giddings. Hauling Scouts and cheerleaders on the 15th.
I second the "Fate is the Hunter" nomination. Actually, just about anything by Gann is great reading for pilots and anybody that likes aviation.
The autobiography of Jimmy Dolittle, "I could never be so lucky again" is a great read as well.
You for sure don't need it here. Mine leaked oil a year or so ago and the truck started just fine without during our cold winter.
I like the flux capacitor answer.
I have a '67 Cooper S. No pictures of it with the Dueces though. My students and Scouts really get a kick out of seing what I drive. Since I only drive the Mini in the cooler times around here, each fall there is always somebody new that just can't believe I have the biggest truck they have...
The shielded spark plug wires and huge sealed distributor confuse people into thinking it is a diesel. 1 long valve cover , carb on the passenger side, REO Gold Comet markings on the manifold, oil fill on top of the valve cover with a little oil bath vent all mean OA331.
Look at the data...
Most of us did what Warthog did. Cut down M35 seats. The base hinge for the M35 seats when the uprights are all the way in the slots are about 1" above the level of the bed rail. You can cut it down, but then you have to cut the angles seat supports as well.
The middle up right needs to...
I think what they are referring to is how a locker will make a truck handle different than a non locked vehicle. I have a locker in the back of my 396 powered M715. The less air pressure in the 39" tall XZL tires, the more I can steer with the throttle. It is just a side effect of a locker...
Pulling the drums after pulling both tires off just makes a lot more work. Leave the tires on, pull the axle and bearings. Set the hub/drum/tires on a furniture dolly or something else with wheels and just roll it away. Way easier.
However, if this is your first time to work on the truck...
Do you mean that you want to cut a hatch above the pintle at the rear and close in the sides above the frame? Just like a 5 ton does for ladders and such? Sounds like a good idea.
I don't have a 151. However, I did the same thing Sam started this thread talking about. Pull a smaller MV behind a M35 to big events so you have a pair of vehicles there. One as base and the other to run around in. I figured the military tow bar would be great for that. I only did it once...
Not a problem. Yesterday just happened to be a staff development day with no students. Otherwise, I would have had class. See you in Temple 4 weeks from about now.
