That sounds like a pressure plate failure. You need to get under it and inspect the clutch linkage and while someone actuates the clutch pedal, watch for failure. I'll bet you end up doing a clutch. Goes without saying you ought to do a rear main while you're in there. nopics :p

Although it's difficult to diagnose, every deuce I've had that has had a noisy gearbox was the transmission. If so, at a minimum it's a set of bearings (input/output).

MAKE ABSOLUTE SURE THE ENGINE STOP CABLE IS OUT and the transfercase is in neutral, BEFORE FOLLOWING THE FOLLOWING ADVICE! Put tranny in gear, insert long prybar into jackshaft running from tranny to transfer, slowly turn over. Voila.
