    Artisan's M916

... even if you sit it really low between the frame rails, allowing you still to show the man that you "pull" an RV type goose neck trailer that does not need the really big - full width trailer king-pin plate. but with a few bolts, you could change out to a full size fifth wheel. And don't...

    M936a2 towing a M931a2

What Pat says - especially as suspended towing will expose you to the requirements of needing a wrecker endorsement on your CDL and specific tow truck insurance.

    816 lighting upgrade

Scott - do you need bulbs or lights? I am not too far from you and brought a whole myriad of 24v bulbs back from the UK last time I went home. They are used on all big trucks there.

    816 lighting upgrade

to what sort of standard? - Too slow, too dim, wrong color?? aren't there ones there as standard? Military vehicles have to comply too. Never seen this on civi wreckers unless you can't drive over 20mph then he's talking about a SMV triangle??? There is a standard for that? So there...

    Artisan's M916

Can someone delete this - it's redundant now and I seem to only be able to edit!

    Stalwart 6x6 questions

As far as the driveline is concerned - these are cross country vehicles - not designed/intended to be driven on road (very far). Frequent inspection and measurement of tyre diameters and subsequent rematching/replacement is required - there are no differentials in the transmission - all wheels...

    45K Rear Winch on M931A2?

You are lucky - I have a 916A1 and there are no spacer blocks so I'll have to add 14" to the RGN of my lowboy!

    Backhoe recovery with the M936A1

Well hopefully your neighbour will have learnt a lesson so you won't have to acquire spades for the next time! Will you be putting a little backhoe silhouette on the side of your door a-la WWII fighters and bombers?????

    M916A1 Hauler

For intended purpose of OP, that is what the truck was designed for - light equipment (which is military speak for 'everything except M88/M1A1 tanks!) Points to consider: You will need a military trailer ie., M870, otherwise you'll have to add ~14" to the RGN and change the Kingpin from 2" to...

Anyone been to Military Collection in Grand Gorge NY

He also was selling Unimogs and a couple of old Land Rovers a while back, a few 5 tons (800's and 900's) and some Deuces and CUCVs too. Even a Huey shell I think. He has another place further West where he also has an 816 and he intends to consolidate everything to Grand Gorge but as...

CBR Metalworks M920 hauler 'Mad Max'

MK 15 rear 'A' frame is a kind of a goofey arrangement ... I am sure you can improve on the chain stays so as not to worry about it interfering while using the crane at the same time or your container by looking at the HEMTT wreckers stinger setup and make the frame/fairlead support a permanent...

    New summer project! "Rosie"

First pic - GS with Mortar fit (only ones to get triple Jerry can holder instead of winch). Second pic - radio body with ac unit on roof. This would probably interfere with the masts (if vehicle was 'radio' rather than REME repair van etc.,) so may have been a civi mod for camping in that...

    New summer project! "Rosie"

Yeah, Les is a great guy. I've known him for many years... As far as the tan goes - pretty sure it's going to be authentic and in Bob Morrisons book - Land Rovers in the Gulf, there are no pics of any with the "triangle" or inverted chevron..... I think that came later (second Gulf war) and...

    M870A1 Acquisition Thread

This is a nice mod, though I think I may have gone with rounded/smooth treads, certainly for the top one - potential hand grips maybe (subject to owners stature!). NB A2's went to some kind of slotted ladder setup on the gooseneck. A2 pic added at bottom of post. They'll look great once...

    New summer project! "Rosie"

Seeing as no one got it..... That colour is known as Eau de Nil (translates from French as 'Water of the Nile'). This paint was used for rebuilt engines/transmissions. If the vehicle had it's original engine, it would be unpainted (block is aluminium) with gloss black plumbing/electrics etc...

Wrecker Owners, Stand up and be Recognized!

Which is ok if the civi truck has a stout front bumper/frame rail ends.... Discussed at length - with pics, somewhere in these: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?81781-Wrecker-wishlist-of-mods&highlight=wrecker+wishlist...

Wrecker Owners, Stand up and be Recognized!

Can't find the thread discussing various spade mounts from maybe a year ago, but here is pic that I posted of the ones I made for mine. No wrench reqd, but not lockable either...

M916A1 / Detroit 60: Block heater, anyone done this?

Thinking about installing a block heater and was wondering if anyone had tone the homework already re part numbers/suppliers?

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Valence. Welcome to the big bad world of wrecker restorers.. I think you are starting out ahead of the curve - I would much rather have your situation of civi neglect than civi butchery if your destination is a good example of a military 816. So many were bought and civilianised by amateur...

    M816 boom extention

Hey Jeff - Bjorn hit it on the head, reach rather than height, though it was pretty tight, fortunately the trucks front wheels were 6" lower than the rear so I just had enough height. Though all I would have to do would be to move the cable clips up a bit or wind up the nuts on the silo strap...
