Front QD hitch
Hey Robo - always good to read your Euro posts.... kind of a remenisance for me...
I had designed this for my 816, haven't finished it yet. I guess you could substitute the NATO pintle for a slot and pin as per the DAF. On the wreckers and tractors there are the lower spade...
So if no-one is selling these ASKs, does anyone have either an off genny ASK to "copy", would be up for a load of dimensions/ and or pics, or the associated instalation TM/FM etc., that can be used for fabrication so that it is a reasonable facsimilie?
Would like to get my 003 covered/secured...
All sounds like a fun trip...... I'd love to do this with one I am waiting on but NY doesn't do "Transportation Tags" into the state, and the State where it is doesn't do them at all! So it's gonna have to be carried!
Dare I ask how you are overcoming.. wrong word, I mean organising the...
Do you have these? I need a bunch... at the right price - AAR Mfg want upwards of $7.58 ea. That's $30 per shelf x ??? ..... !
I was looking into getting some made - best quote for the blank (pre folded) sofar is > $1.50 ea...
Cheers.
similar thread...
That didn't take long...
Congrats Ron - you win.
Front of the hood was raised as were the legs of the grille and associated support brackets. New engine cover sides were pressed with hardware transfered over. From what I can remember from the tale - the tinwork was all done in one overnight...
Just got some new pics from down under. Quiz: What's up with the headlights?
... don't let the lack of 'level wind' distract your attention!
There may be other "spot the differences" pics later.
NB. I do know the answer.
So what mods are you thinking about? The MMRS does have a load of nice features that could be addapted. ;)
most of which people have been discussing here.
I think we are getting confused between recovery capability and lift capability.
A big truck down an embankment will not be "lifted", it will be pulled or rolled then pulled - in army speak, that's what the drag winch is for.
Righting a rolled truck ON/Next-to the highway will be lift rolled or...
Quick approx calcs...
Original drum 10" dia, 17" long can hold ...
17 x 2 x pi x 10 / 12 = 89'
Smaller drum 8" dia 17" long can hold ...
17 x 2 x pi x 8 / 12 = 71' inner layer
17 x 2 x pi x 9 / 12 = 80' middle layer
17 x 2 x pi x 10 / 12 = 89' outer layer
Giving total of...
Not even that - NO CHANGE TO MOUNTS OR BRACKETS - just change the tube in the drum!
Floridianson - "I trying to understand the need for 200 foot of crane line." ..........
I'd guess it's just the state only knowing about civi wreckers w/o drag winches - just boom winches. But as they...
Did a quick sketch/calcs from Ron's info (other thread comparing M54 and 819 drums)...
Yes, changing out the whole winch would be an option - question is - which method would be easier subject to skill/available shop etc., vs available other winch - then to addapt brackets... (prob just as much...
I think it can be done - but the reasoning for the rule is probably related to all modern civi wreckers use the boom winches for recovery as they do not generally have additional drag winches - which our ones have, with plenty of feet in that dept. So it might be worth getting a clarification...
Not sure where this came from, refering to a book quote. Doesn't make sence seeing as a full winch-in for recovery close to the final position of the casualty would be all under tension with exception of the last few feet when "preparing to travel".
So I'd say your time in Maintenance wasn't...
I believe we 'done this one to death' already.... started in post #115 of thread
http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?83773-Wrecker-bed-modification&highlight=wreckery+body+mods
Longer drum in it's current position would not load either end - fleet angle as Ron mentioned and...
Sounds like you should have all the info needed to fix your problem, though there are a couple of other things that potentially could be wrong however extremely unlikely........
There could be a build up of crud/foreign body in the slots that the sliding tensioner wheel moves in - not allowing...
'Hey' back at yuh! I missed Jim Thorpe too. Hopefully going to Red Ball/Sussex though.
Thanks for the heads up on the cutting dude. Will see what he can do though initially we are waiting to see what Pats friend with a plasma table can come up with as far as a unit price...
Miss read your post - I thought you had already left! I pm'd you a little note.
Looks like there will be plenty of things for you to do, go see etc., and just like Oz, stuff tends to be quite a distance apart!
Play your cards right and you could probably leap frog your way across the country...
It looks like a factory add on - as in Mercedes not Freightliner.
I remember in the UK, friends who had 404's used to call it a rubbish bin (UK) winch - 'cause it looked the same size as a 'trash can' (US) mounted on the front bumper.
Not a huge capacity - I think the cable is in the order of...
