The pins I need may be called (coil-over) "Daiper" pins.
Apparently a version is available from performance retailers - though extremely pricey but also hardware stores - though neither have the pin part as long as the military ones. They'll do for now. Have to wait and see if the pin...
Bins, padlocks and gear...
No guarantees..... My 816 came with a load of BII, however all the lockers were unlocked, yet there were 8 cut padlocks all over the floor and in the lockers, even still fastened to the rear climbup handle!
Hair pin clip replacement.
Slight hijack... some of my hairpin clips are missing or broken - can anyone point me in a direction for replacememnts - thanks.
Mark - congrats on the BII kit you have. Seems like 'Us the tax payers' have funded quite the goodie bag - shame about the boring wrapping paper!
I am curious that the hand tools (spade, sledge and bolt cutter) seem to be "off the shelf" from the local hardware store!
I'd assume they are...
Forever toy, but it's not "Legos"
Yup, I loved it in the 60's and 70's and now my son plays with LEGO, and what's great, is that the bricks that I had in the 60's fits perfectly with the bricks etc., that you can buy now!
However... Does anyone remember the thread about pet peeves?...
Here is...
Headlight
Thanks for all the +ve responces. I have no intention to castrait and lift my truck, paint it pink etc., so I guess there's nothing to worry about.
I too have LED's, haven't installed them yet... Though I was wondering what to do with the old bulb headlights. Maybe extra rear...
Has anyone ever had their "collar fealt" by a LEO/DoT/Trooper etc., or even inspection problems with the height of the headlights? This is not even regarding lifted trucks, bigger tyres/'stumpies' etc...
Now that the vehicles are in private hands and not subject to in service exemptions, it...
Vids are already surfacing from this weekends MV show at the Whitbread Hop Farm in Beltring UK.
If you haven't been, but have heard of it, check out the helocopter ride vid for an idea of the size of the event...
I went back in 2009 and then there were over 1000 official vendors, add to...
Lifting from bed
Despite the doubt of the suggested method, I tried out my idea.
I did not fab up a special bracket, just used the shipper brace retaining bracket and a spare large ring I had lying around.
After lifting the boom, lowering hook to the ground and dropping the boom, there...
12v Alternator pulley/belts
Quick question - for the pulley and double belts; did you get longer belts or re route the existing with maybe a shorter tensioner loop? (I'm not familiar with this truck/engine setup so answer may not even be appropriate for my 5 ton!)
Where did you get the...
Genius at work
That is a fantastically simple, yet totally practical design. Once painted green, who'd not think it was a 'in field' mod by an MIT conscript.
Very impressed with your thought process.
Anyway the verticle "receiver tube" would go 'inside' the bumperette?
Can't...
Home made "NSN" chocks.
123Mack - the PS magazine shows 7 piece chocks, however if the width is 8 1/2" that would make sence as that is what 5 pieces of "2 by" add up to (ea nom 1.75"). The one I photo'd was 5 piece and had a NSN on it. So I'm guessing that the PS magazine ones are "similar"...
In light of my apparent "negative" responce earlier, I would like to look at the problem in a positive way and in conclusion offer a real cheap fix.
Along the ram idea, how about moving the lower ram point up a few inches, 'Cheating Peter to pay Paul' and having the fully collapsed height of...
Sam - I appologise for implying any of what you refer and was not trying to be negative.
Yes, I realise how heavy those bars are and yes, there isn't anywhere else for them to go.
Yes, I have struggled with the spare, I just throw it off but lifting it back on is a different situation, and I...
Not too sure where on the bed you are thinking of putting stuff and what stuff? ....................... The manual does state that the spare wheel should be lifted down with the crane, so having accepted that, and assuming that the spare has to be hand moved to within the 270 deg (?) reach of...
More blue paint
Don't think this is related, but whilst restoring the front end of my 816, I found a dark blue on the front winch, on top of the yellow etch primer (the winch is cast aluminium), and under many coats of OD and sand. Also the cable tensioner was originally white.
Why would...
Oh so many chocks.
Jeff - "KsM715" Thanks for the "Marvel" comic pics - yes, that is the thing I am looking for. So, if you find one - or anyone else finds one, I'd love the dims of the pieces parts or the whole thing, inc chain....
Looks like it is a 6x2 laminated sandwich - and of...
5 ton chocks
Thanks Mike, but I don't think the "F-16 chocks" you posted earlier are big enough for a 36,000 lb wrecker (+ any vehicle it has on tow). Some one else posted that their 5 ton rolled right over some low chocks.
I am looking for the correct, BII (though they are not in the TM...
M 816 chocks
Can someone please give me dimensions of the proper 5 ton chocks - I have pics of wooden ones, but didn't take dimensions. Or pics and dims of the steel ones... Including the chains too.
Unless someone has them for sale in the North East.
Thanks in advance.
It's not like there is an actual figure that you are shooting for. Just measure the bumper to ground of the back of the towing vehicle, with the trailer hooked up but empty. Then when you load, initially this will increase as the tail heavy trailer lifts the tow vehicle. As the Ferret moves...
