Interesting side note, the engine can dead crank wonderfully with one battery above 12.3v and one at 10.1v, but it won’t start by the switch. Ask me how I know.
I think it might be a stuck ring from sitting. Pretty sure it’s a relatively low hour remanufactured engine by the looks of it. Doesn’t seem to be using oil, or smoking, but has some crankcase pressure and doesn’t seem to handle full load as I would expect.
Today I replaced the fuel lines on my 802. It seems they all rub through on these sets where the wire ties are placed or where the hoses rub something, so I used some wire loom in areas where the hoses get tied down. I also rerouted the hose behind the engine along a better path.
Anyone know of...
Update: I swapped back to the 88C thermostat. After thermal review I think it’s safe to say that the issue is either the temp gauge or the sender. I will follow the procedure to check the sender as first step.
I swapped out the coolant and thermostat today. The unit had a 88c (190F) thermostat in it and it wasn’t stuck. I went ahead and swapped it and ran under load for about an hour. The gauge now reads about 10f lower under load. Currently suspect the sender or gauge but leaning towards sender.
The...
I picked up a 180F thermostat and gasket. I will get that installed over the weekend and run it again.
Might as well change coolant. TM spec is Mil-A-46153. This is ASTM D3306, ASTM D6210. CAT-EC-1 which I will roll with if nobody screams stop.
Now I am curious if running cold could be keeping the unit from seating in the rings properly. Hopefully the initial load testing hasn’t done any damage. At the time, I figured cooler was okay as long as coolant was circulating, which I knew it was, it just didn’t register with me in the mild...
I did touch the upper radiator hose today after 2hrs at load and it was hot but I could touch it without getting burned so after reading that the thermostats are either 165 or 190 (seen both listed as replacements), it seems as though my unit may be missing the thermostat or it’s stuck open. I...
Good
Good eye. Yes, it runs on the cold side according to the gauge and my assumption is that it is a faulty gauge. What else could it be besides the gauge and is there an easy location to obtain another reading?
It’s touching 60F today and I had some wrenching to do outside so I figured it was a great day to resume operation break-in.
Right away I noticed that it’s handling the couple second spikes to 100% much better. I am going to try and post a video of the droop I am noticing to see if it’s normal...
I finally got a decent weather day to wire up the stove and give the generator a 6hr shakedown. It didn’t like brief 100% loads very much but it was doing a little better at the end compared to when I started.
I ran the oven on 400f, which put the base load around 55%, and I turned on two small...
I am planning to use an old stove as my load bank. I have a 30A 240v power cord that I will wire up. The plan is to run just the oven (door opened) and see what the load is and if necessary I can turn on/off a small burner as needed to hopefully work in the 75-100% operating range.
Found these two issues. Quite sure everyone experiences the fuel hose issue, I don’t know why they install the wire ties so darn tight. I think the electrical wires were routed incorrectly and rubbed the radiator hose. Probably fine but not worth the risk of failure when I start running it hard...
