Welcome to the disease, it's futile to resist ! My first tactical MV was a M151 courtesy of Uncle for a mandatory week.. Then an early M35A2 (downspout) for three days and then on to the M51, M52, M818, and M123 until finishing heavy motor transport school .. We never touched the M715 nor M880...

Will start only with a squirt of starting fluid. Runs great once started.

The only time i ever had the ether-assist "but afterwards ran perfect" situation was with the M109A3 when i went to get it at the DRMO .. Discovered the fuel pump fuse blown, pump inop, then sticky and slow upon fuse change.. Fixed that and has been starting normal for 15 years now.. I know...

be careful, that stubborn plug can cause a cracked HH .. it will come out, but as you are finding out it can be overly difficult for its size. .. much like my ex-wife

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

i worked with a fella who had been on that cruise line from 1971-73 .. One day during lunch i asked about his port-to-port adventures , expecting elaborate embellished stories about the women of singapore, danang, saigon, greece, san fran etc .. He looked disappointed and said they hardly went...

new or old, it should be run out and inspected periodically for wear, flat spots, twist/kinks, frays , etc .. Include the boom, rollers, pins, hoses/pipes, etc with your inspection .. The TM's are your guide to the time-tested PMCS procedure and operation

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Yep the pockets are there for it as well as on a M49C/M50C , to disguise them as lesser targets to air and ground OPFOR .... In all my 30-some years combined service as a 64C10/20, next the subsequent 88M20/30, and then the years spent with the State Guard filling in for the State's deployed...

Another long time lurker who finally joined the MV club

Welcome to the disease from 60 road-miles northeast of you .. nice clean truck ! The closest I ever got to your area while in any part of the military was an 18-hour day with a M54A1 and M105 trailer to/from the airlift group in Schenectady to pick up duffles and field equipment of the...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

It's a regular 2-1/2T M35 cargo truck cover and bows.. Is a very tight fit length-wise and you have to stretch it a bit and there's a bit of inward lean on the rear bow (if in the rearmost pocket) unless you have a Soldier B or C to help pull the cover really tight as you work it back, but it...

MEP run on home heating oil?

40 years ago after my active army stint, i was hauling fuels.. In winter we would do our mix while filling directly into the trucks and trailers at the tank farm .. It was an easy formula to remember.. 90% diesel (or FO) to a 10% kero mix lowers the gel point by about 4 to 5 degrees, which...
