it was also the era of GM's "0% Financing" national campaign, the first of its kind as I recall .. That got a lot of people in the door to buy .. A neighbor grabbed a couple GM pickup trucks for his business in '85 or '86 and soon enough had to ask me for rides from the dealership for either a...
the last unit i was with remotored dead or dying multifuels into "A2 Macks" but there were only a handful of them (and actual A1's) amongst the gaggle of gassers, multifuels, and 800's.. We would "fight" over them and literally run like hell across the motorpool to beat others to them first...
Yeah, I have never seen one .. If a hen's tooth, I will abandon the thought of looking for one to do a re-motor/re-class on one of the M51A2's w/OD that was planned to be converted to M52A2 .. I will grab a 673 mack engine instead, a better engine anyway but pricey to rebuild or fix
have done a search on here for "LDS465-2 " and all i get is a ton of Dash-A1 hits and not notice any peep about the Dash-2 ... Every one of the 5T multifuels here in the yard have 1A on the tag if I recall correctly.. And I don't recall seeing a Dash-2 in the army either, but at this age I...
On our 003's we hardly ever have to add oil, and when we do it isn't more than a pint ... as others have said, fire it up with the dipstick out and see how much of a mess you get :D .. If you don't rust-proof yourself when doing that, put the flat of your hand slowly closer to the filler...
when I come across them in the days to come, I will post pics of the final batch of tanks fielded by my former Bn, being loaded to head west to Ft Irwin by rail
the M3 was such an odd-sounding weapon !! Got to work with it on a number of occasions . Of course, the hotter the "grease" got, the faster it fired :ROFLMAO:
Tried numerous times in the mid-70's to hire on a road my grandfather, his father, and several other relatives had retired from or worked on. But the road went downhill and continued to lay off people under 20yrs seniority .. So I went to enlist as an army railroader instead, thinking for sure...
I concur on all counts and had also heard the concern about conserving batteries if they were to be shut down for many hours .... I was up close and personal with the tankers only when refueling and handing over their ammo, (and road-testing potential tracked drivers during the warm months...
yep we did several winter ops with the tanks fielded, but not on the FX i mentioned here.. That time tanks stayed "home" because the crews had classroom training and warm beds while the rest of us were on a mountain a few miles away having a "grand ol' time..." Don't know what tank you are...
when i was with armor we didn't have the luxury of netting for our trucks, but then again, we were moving every couple days anyway .. Instead, it was mud on the headlights, hoods up, door windows down, and whatever vegetation we found to break up the outline.. Even if it was pouring 😫
I doubt solder will stick to that type of cast, and not sure if a heliarc (Tig) welder will do the trick like it does on aluminum .. You can try JB-Weld (inside and out) if it's available over there, I have used JB as an overlay successfully on cracked blocks/heads I have welded or brazed ...
