Apologies, yes I was referring to valve lash/adjustment as the same thing. 1 and 4 look like they're opening early or closing late, or vice versa, and it's resulting in a loss of compression on 2 cylinders, on the opposing cycle. Explains why the ignition timing isn't cooperating and why it...

We're fighting a similar battle here, lots of good info as to what your issue may be. Hope it helps
I would definitely change those plugs out, re-gap at minimum. #1 looks closed fully and #2 looks wide open and a little burnt. Compression looks on the edge to me, 20% variation between low and high and 5-10% per cylinder tells me the valves may need adjustment, pattern is consistent low/high...
Hmmm.... I'm sure you know but usually when an engine runs rich you get the smoke show and in serious cases backfiring, yours doesn't seem to have that issue. Like NDT said, while running you should be able to turn the cap from retarded to advanced while running and hear the engine respond by...
I ran the videos in tandem and the engine lopes the same in both until it stalls, I would try advancing the timing a bit before you retard it any further. It may be an air/fuel mix issue as well, when in cold idle the mix is good, after it kicks off cold idle it goes lean, that's what it sounds...
No problem. TMs are our best friends, there's not a single part of that truck or any MV for that matter undocumented (to my knowledge anyway). Nsns can be tricky, but the right parts guy shouldn't have an issue. Hope the search goes well for you.
I like how the wheels on the Cruze with just the center caps makes it look 9C1 wheels..... Makes me miss my 96. My 93 came with aftermarket aluminums, which are cool, but nothing beats those steelies.
I don't think there is an injector upgrade for that engine, if I'm remembering correctly, that already has the LDS patterned injectors on it being a late model 1D. You can build that engine into an LDS, or swap to a Cummins, but as it sits, your option is turn the fuel up and keep it below 1200...
Either the flexplate is missing teeth or the starter gear is missing teeth, like stated above. Could be that the Bendix is not extending and the starter gear is turning in the disengaged position, either way it sounds like you're pulling a starter.
Do the lines in the first pic come out of that box or is it just a plate? To me it looks like a heater box, or maybe a barrel cooling box if those exist, possibly a defrosting unit? Could you post some more pics of it?
