M939 batteries running down while driving operating vehicle

Decades ago when I was in automotive technical school, I was taught that flooded cell batteries can be charged up reverse polarity. First, the battery has to be completely dead. Then, someone hooks up a charger backwards. If you completely discharge the ones that are reversed, you may be able to...

    12 volt Alternator Modification

That kind of amperage would be real nice but hard to get with a single v-belt drive.

    m923A2 Hard Top Fit?

I have not bent hinges to get the window gaps to close but I have to get the doors to line up and work properly. My advice is to get a big adjustable wrench (Crescent) and just bend away after adjusting the wrench to grip both leaves of the hinge. You do this with the door closed. I use a 24...

Need CDL to drive 5 ton in Texas?

CDL not required. Class B minimum is by the letter of the law but CDL is only if used commercially.

    Spring brake chamber again

When I did mine it was due to a slow leak on one spring brake chamber.

    Spring brake chamber again

To follow up with what Floridianson said, I suggest as I have learned from others here, thoroughly inspect your cage bolts before use. And maybe he's had a few too many cans of courage already today, as the setting the parking brake releases the air pressure, thereby extending the springs. What...

Is a Dana 80 strong enough?

What about all of the MRAP axles they sell on GL? Meritor I think. I thought I had seen some in the classifieds.

    M939 transmission problem

You said you checked fluid and readjusted cable, I'm guessing the shifter cable. Have you checked the linkage from the throttle to the transmission? Just a thought that maybe a clevis pin fell out or something. I know I have had a vacuum line from the modulator on a TH400 come off and yeah, it...

    Supplies for a Long Trip

It is common for us desert dwellers to carry spray bottles with water. You want a mist spray and just periodically spray your face, neck, chest, whatever. The bandanas with the crystals work O.K. also but I think spray bottles are more versatile. Wearing a wet ball cap or jungle hat helps too...

AFE sells dry reusable high flow filters that are much better at stopping dirt than the oiled K&Ns.

Cleaning Surplus Wheels/Tires for an M923

Might be. Have you tried it on rusty parts? Maybe somewhere there is a place where folks go to get their naval "milked" then it is bottled and sold.

Cleaning Surplus Wheels/Tires for an M923

Phosphoric acid is also a main ingredient in Naval Jelly. This is also available at hardware stores and has the advantage of being viscous, like jelly. So, you can put it on and it stays put, like the studs pointing up on the horizontal wheel.

    Starter warm-up?

I second glcaines advice. My deuce would occasionally just click once or twice before cranking and starting normally. Last week it would not crank at all, just clicking. I found one battery low and a post melted. I charged up both batteries individually but it became apparent that one of them...

1971 M35A2 Front Axle Boot Replacement

Since you already have the zippered boots, use them before thinking of getting silicone one-piece ones. Relatively easy to do. I have even done them on my five-ton. I can do one in about an hour now. Never even have to jack up the truck for the zipper style. Make double sure the clamp ring is...

    M35A2 performance in Sand

As has been stated, 395s aired down helps a bunch. The common sense part is to let up on the throttle before the axles or frame come close to touching down to figure a different approach to proceeding. That way, it does not take a vehicle twice as heavy to tow you out. Something like this is...
