All, if I buy an M816 what is needed to "convert" it down to just an M813. The differences after removing the Crane/bed assembly that I think I know are:
1. M816 has a heavy plated frame to allow the extra 15K + weight the crane assembly adds. (no modification needed for conversion)
2. M816...
Simp, On the 80-140w Syn gear oil. I live in Utah and the winter has temps down low for a good long time. If I run this in the axles the oil is going to be in the 140 range unless I hit the freeway for some time. I wonder if you would still recommend this for my area with the cold as I dont...
Simp, For me the novice, the BC 400 to fit in the old 250 slot requires:
1. Front and the rear engine mounts need to be modified to accommodate the larger engine size, 1/2" plate steel and some happy hockey pucks :)...
2. and aligned to have the engine sit to the passenger side slightly several...
I had thought that the M809 series didn't have air brakes, but had an air assisted hydraulic system. The M900 series has air brakes (and all the air tanks etc... I had thought that the breaks wouldn't transfer over... but your saying that even the M809 has a air interface for a trailer already...
If I am going to use the stock axles on an M809 series what interface is needed to adapt air breaks into the unit for a heavy loaded trailer of the type M1095 or M1082? Anyone done this before keeping the stock breaks?
Anyone know where I can find the specs on the 5-ton axle width for F&R. To help with track width matching. I also cant seem to find any info specifically on the width or kingpin angle of the 5 ton front and width of the rear axles (wheel mounting surfaces). The only thing I can find says 79...
Here is another example of very different track widths... I like that the rear tires are flush with the side of the bed but the fronts are way way out there.
I was thinking that first pic was a M54 series only because the air box is on the left but then I remember reading your turbo setup and realized you have an air cleaner on both fenders... AWESOME job with the turbo BTW.
Do you find the track width is very similar? How close... a few inches or...
What bead lock rims on a 5 ton will get a 16.00 tire to mount with near perfect scrub radius? Also it looks like some rims /hub flipping etc... cause a significant offset to the track width of the front and rear axle as shown below on a M54ish ride. What combination of wheels gets this...
It seems that the 6T-AGM is the stock battery for the M809/939 series... Correct? But I see in the 5 TON parts list that 8D batteries are listed and the 31 series.. From the sizes listed below the 8D batteries are virtually two 6T batteries put together.
So I am a bit confused on that... I see...
First off great tire choice. Where did you get them from and how much? Are they retreads?
I have no idea as to why the rim/bead-lock combo are not working together as I haven't my own rig yet and am still in the informational stage in learning so I could have easily run into this issue...

I was looking into making my own Lithium battery set that would be mounted under the seats in the cab (For several reasons I will not go into here), but when I came across this from a Lithium battery manufacturer I decided Lithium is not...
Kickin Project! Where do all of you guys score your rides from! Seems I dont have a good feed to locate rigs as they come up for sale... like a friend of a friends second cousins brother in-laws co-worker ... had this for sale and...now its mine... LOL Looks like you have a lot to do on this...
Which is the best off-road tire? Snow, Mud. Longest lasting on-road? Any of these have fatal flaws like cupping, seperation issues etc... that need to be looked out for? Did I miss one that is an off-road specific tire?
Thanks for the quick reply, I do like the M800 series rides.
Fuzzytoaster has an M814 he is working on to sell sometime in the future. I am patient and not looking to just buy anything but who knows. Maybe that is the rig I will buy. If so my dream rig is an M813/14 with a Big Cam 400 an 8LL...
I would be driving back to Utah so that is perfect! Can you send me a few more pics of the M923A2 when you have time? SIMP feels I should be buying one of the 5 tons with the removable hump in the floor of the cab to make a Big cam 400 swap with a manual trans a bit of an easier ordeal. I...
Are the XZL tires that crappy in mud? Do they make a 16.00 XML? I have seen a listing of a 475/80R20 XML
Fuzzytoaster I would love to buy one of these units. How much did they pick it up from you for? Let me know as I have been looking for a while for something like this. I did notice you...
