Okay. Now that makes sense. So I just ran down and grabbed the alt before he made any modifications to it,it is currently set up to work in the isolated ground config like it should be. The above picture is exactly how the rebuild man said to hook it up yesterday afternoon.
However it had the...
So I have determined that the gen 1 alt is actually the gen 2 alt that previous owner must have put there assuming they were the same. I really dont want to buy another alt so whats it take to make the gen 2 alt work properly in gen 1 position.
Is it just removing the insulators in side the alt...
So it appears that previous owner (he had a parts truck) put a gen2 isolated ground alt in the gen1 position but hooked it up with ground to where it should be on alt one the bolt in back not the post. Think this explains a lot of the issue, gonna take it to alternator rebuild man and have him...
I have also noticed the volt gauge seems to run somewhat low...never seems to be in the green...would gen 1 not charging cause this to happen...I m gonna guess yes.
Just had gen2 rebuilt and isolated ground insulators installed (they were not by previous owner rebuild) pretty sure that one is working but will check again. If it is not the socket or connections any other areas I should key in on?
Will this light come on even if gen 1 is malfunctioning and...
Well checked bulb that works...guess I got to dig a little deeper this evening. Any quick points of interest I should look into or reasons why this light would not be working. I will be pulling the dash cluster out to have a look at the printed circuit board to make sure the bulb socket is...
So the idiot light completes the circuit for the alternator it is serving...I have no idiot light for Gen1 so does that mean the front battery is not getting charged....sorry to beat a dead horse
That was the first thing I did after some reading on here Warthog. Seems like removing the noise suppressors is a go to move to troubleshoot electrical issues on these trucks. Probably just typical wiper motor issue on these trucks regardless of military or not. Could be because it sat for over...
Any thoughts as to why it seems like i have no higher speed wiper function? Does not seem like any speed increase when switched between to speeds on column.
Well iam happy to report that the dimmer switch was the problem. Picked one up got it installed and everything is working as it should. I did have small issue with headlight fuse acting up. While i was under there and tried lights for first time i had no lights but noticed the fuse seemed to be...
Well went home at lunch and it appears it is the dimmer switch that is bad. Did the diagnostics ie. removed plug and jumped the connections and both lights work high and low beam...now i just have to get part and should be good to go.
Big thanks to Warthog...and also cucvrus for helpful pms.
Thanks for your patience...just read thru that whole stickie again. Think i will try the service switch bypass I read about on here just to eliminate that from the equation for now. I did notice the headlight fuse is very loose. Whats puzzling is that when I read through other posts there seems...
Okay so I had some time last night to work on getting the lights working. Everything except the headlights works now, appears blackout switchs work, maybe not sure. There is no power to headlights started pulling dash apart got BO switch plate out but ran out of time to mess with it. The truck...
Yes I think I did quite well with this truck. It was a maintenance vehicle for a retirement home for a number of yrs and appears it was really well taken care off. Knock on wood every issue so far has been very easy to resolve.
Not as easy as the last 87 1 ton I bought that guy swore it needed...
Yes I do and will...I know im jumping the gun a little just trying to get heads up on how that upgrade works. Just quickly poking around with test light it doesnt appear there is power at plugs. I need to do complete troubleshoot procedure. And i do know a test light is not a multimeter... lol...
So does the headlight harness upgrade continue back to headlight switch and that is what controls on/off? read the stickies just didnt see where it says how it gets switched power.
Dr Porkchop think I talked to you about bumpers and clevis's maybe.
Went home at lunch and cutout horn diode, cured horn issue and rest of driving lights work have reverse lights too, very bright now actually. Still no power to headlights though...
