    Red's deuce/camper project

What, you sold the shelter after CARNAC dragged it halfway across the country for you? What, you sold the trailer after I dragged it halfway across Texas for you?

    Need torque help

If the wrench is parallel to the ground and your weight is centered on the mark, you are at 450 ft./lbs. You can keep reindexing the wrench as you approach the final torque so the wrench handle is close to level. Breakaway torque would be a concern whether using this technique or using a high...

    Need torque help

Why don't you just use your body weight on a long wrench. If you divide your body weight into 450 ft./lbs., you get the distance in feet from the center of the bolt/stud/nut to where you should place your weight. Example: 200 lb. weight into 450 is 2.25 feet so 200 lbs. on a wrench (cheater...

    M923A2 Transfer case no engagement.

Now you just have to crawl under the truck and adjust the cable so it always lands in the sweet spot when in neutral. Pull a cotter pin, pull a clevis pin, adjust length to suit, reassemble in reverse order.

    That very one indeed.

    M923A2 Transfer case no engagement.

I have found that some trucks need the transmission shifter cable adjusted to ensure power gets through the switch on the shifter. It sounds like the problem you are experiencing. The indicator on the shifter should line up exactly with the "N" when in neutral or power will not be fed to the...

Cab Clearence Lights for 24v system.

Just a quick guess...the 12V incandescent will smoke immediately. (O.K. not so much a guess as an I know) I believe someone was selling 24v incandescent clearance lights in the classifieds. You can also get replacement 24v bulbs to replace the 12v bulbs in any incandescent fixture.

I like to dive head first into ownership, how about you?

Don't give up on the original batteries too quickly. I have had several sets come back from the dead with long slow charging sessions. However, as has been stated, do not try running on a set of dead batteries from the get-go or risk the alternator. Frequently, the failure mode for these...

Cab Clearence Lights for 24v system.

You need omnivolt LEDs (10 to 32 volts usually), or 24 volt lights, two identical 12 volt lights in series, or a separate 12 volt power system. All of this has been discussed on several threads. There are several vendors in the for sale section selling stuff to make any of these options...

What to Look for When Buying an M923

Some have found out (the hard way) that rebuilt trucks aren't all that. Shoddy work seems to be quite prevalent on more recent rebuilds. So my advice is to not get too fired up about paying a premium price on something just because it has new paint and low hours/miles due to a rebuild. You can...

    History of M35A2

Yes, that's the one. And no, it is not an M35A2. But I say 'close enough for government work" and really cool.

I second the above but suggest to also show her (and the class) the old fording video.

    Rule update

I would like to mention that one of the things I appreciate about this website is the relatively uncluttered pages, as in not requiring much time to fully load a page. When accessing through a dialup connection, this is a major concern. Now, if all you get is a suggestion to check the TM's, then...

Cheap 24v Radios with modern features.

I installed one of the ones I bought by not in an MV. It is in my truck camper. (Please note that these radios ARE NOT cd players) The radio is really compact and light. It is about half as deep and half as heavy as the cd player radio it replaced. It works well as far as I can tell by using it...

    M52 Wiring Diagram

Hey Matt, I know that the wire numbers and functions are the same between the deuce and your truck. If repairing the harness, use the deuce wiring diagram.

Talk me into, or talk me out of this deuce.

Most deuces do not have power steering and the parts to give you that feature are relatively expensive. If you have close quarters maneuvers planned, that will give you a workout. This is just so you know, since in my case, I still prefer driving my deuce to my 5 tons. It is a real-man's truck.

    Driving thru sand

I was at 12 psi on the rears of my deuce and had two of the four walk. I now have MRAP wheels with bead-locks and can go close to zero with no issues (rear only and not loaded).
