Attached picture shows battery hook-up for m 915. Pics from GL suggest at least some of the battery to wire attachments are missing. They come in positive and negative varieties which are different. If starter is missing are the 3ea bolts that attach it to the bell housing with the truck ...
Think about getting a -10 manual and review the diagram on how to hook to 4ea batteries up as it is not the same as a 809 truck. When I got mine and trailered it home had to put 5 gallons of gear oil in the rears and 2
gallons of dexeron in the trans before turning the key on. All 915s come...
Read the reading. Figure out the Army's publication system. -10 tells what the switches and knobs do. -20 should have an electric diagram that tells what those numbered tags mean so when you get an instrument panel you can plug in the correct wires to the correct gauges. Undersdtand how the...
Used M 270 in service to haul 2ea command post apcs (578 ?) at the same time with M 818 or m 915A1 tractor. Will couple to either one direct without a dolly. 24V lights only and air over hydraulic brakes. Floor is 40' long so with the goose neck it is like pulling a 48' civilian trailer.
It appears to be a PT fuel pump but with some extra brackets for a governer or some such. They all look the same and the internal calibration determined how much fuel it meters and how hard the engine it is attached to runs. Could range from 220 to 400+ horsepower. If it it not marked then you...
Find out whjat the Army itself did with the M915, 916 eyc as tghey have a spil 12 and 24 volt capability with four ea 12 volt batgteries and one alternator. Is essentially a 12 volt vehicle with a 24 volt starter and botyh 12 and 24 volt lighting capabilities.
The original mirror was same as a jeep: ball socket about 5"X6" mounted on one or two tubular arms to the A post. Then the "camper mirror" appeared which is illustrated in the pic at the beginning: same as the Dodge 880 with one bolt attaching to the arm. With the comming of the 809 series with...
Reference EMD 567s post: when towing a trailer on the pintle hook it is also necessary to open the shut off valves on both sides of the truck to operate the brakes and close both valves when the traiiler is uncoupled. Valvesd are open when valve handle is across the line and closed when the...
GL usually sends a SF 97 to the winner of the auction for a titlable vehicle which you take to DMV and get a title and plates. However, in the enchanted land of New Jersey the motor vehicle commission will not accept a reassigned SF 97. For those of us burdened by living in NJ they (GL)will...
If the linkage is worn and you are not getting the full stroke, it is possible to adjust the length of some of the reach rods by backing the jam nut off and turning the clevis. This is easier done when the center section of the floor is out rather than reaching up from below in the grease and...
Get the pubs . Do you know about the pink wire and how to use it to start the vehicle if you are clumsey enough to run it out of fuel ? Read the reading. Yes the New Jersey Army National Guard is fond of repainting vehicles in the field with parts brushes and straw brooms. Why do it right ?
m172 also has a reversalbe kingpin which allows itr to be pulled by tractors with standard 2.5" fifth wheel jaws such as m 818 and m 915 or 3" pins for m 916, 1920, and m 123. Had
one coupled to a m 911 once but could only move in straight lines. . .
GL seems to be getting $2,500 to $3,200 for reasonably solid citizens at auction. Dealers want more but they have got the titlle and you can test drive. WOW trucks with soft tops and no heater are less than those with. Some sites are removing the fluids and/or the instruments prior to sale. They...
M172 ? They come up on GL lists from time to time. Most are 40 years old. Straight air brakes, 24 v only lights, reversable king pin for 2.5" or 3" fifth wheels, ones in NE typically have rotten floor boards. Need deep 1.5" socket to get inner lug nuts off. Has double nuts but not like a M 809...
Make sure the tires are correctly and evenly inflated, the brakes are evenly adjusted and the air lines are corectly hooked up and the valves opened between the truck and the trailer.
