Remember the spare tire/tool box assembly on a m51 and m 51 look similar but, alas, they are not. M 51 or M 817 is narrower than an M52 or M 818 as it fits under the cab shield on the front of the dump body while the tractors it goes to the edge of the body. The extra space on hte middle is...
5 Tons come out of the box with power steering, Dueces don't. As noted above parts are bigger, heavier and more expensive. Truck carrys more and pulls harder.
WHEN loaded: 2l, 3l, 4l, 5l, 4h, 5h and back down the same way. Always back up on low to save clutch. This progressionj fills in to an extent the jump from 3h to 4h that occurs when running in hgih range exclusively. always upshift first then downshift second. Swing the sticks baby.
Used a M 270 with ramps from a M 172 to haul Huimmers. Yes they will go up the ramp in FWD lo and not belley out
at the crest or top of ramp. M 270 has same lip on rear of trailer as M172. I never saw any loinger ramps made for it but
they may be out there.
M 821s have maxi brakes. When coupling a M 818 to one think about knocking down the had applicator valve prior to leaving the cab (and after you set the hand brake), hook the two lines up to the trailer and open the service valve (on driver's side) first and then the emergency second. This...
900 series tractors have apush to release trailer brake control valve so if you have access to one you can study how they hooked it up. As far are losing air pressure and having a run away if the brakes on the trailer work correctly when air pressure in the emergency line reaches 40-60 pounds...
Yea EMR they go down hill easier but are also easier to stop owing to the presense of a three stage Jake. drove them back and forth from NJ to Ft Drum with a M872 40' trailer with 2ea armored personnel carriers on and went uo the hills on I 81 at a least 50 mph and cut about 3.5hrs off the trip...
Amber lights suggest a contact or maintenance truck. When lights or flags are used blue is for lead vehicle, green for
trail vehicle and the command vehicle has a black & white flag. Value ? go to NAPA and get price.
Think about removing the exhaust pipe above the muffler which is held on with a clamp and that should reduce the height of the load 2 feet which may m ake it easier to haul.
One of the warning lights on a 915 is not used as there is no front wheel drive. This works on a 916 or 920 etc, Charging system ? check with a multimeter at slave recepticle on front of battery box. Marks on street ? sounds like rear brakes are not adjusted evenly. This will require a box...
TM for 915a1 sez run engine and shift selector throguh gears wil brake on to fill clutches and then check with trans in neutral at idle on cold mark on stick for acurate readingTM 9-2320-283-10 p..2-51.
The ether devise with the orange bottle on the side of the engine injects a metered or measured ammount of ether into the engine air intake to assist cold weather starting. The
system is not supposed to put too much in at one time which will damage the engine. However there is no ready simple...
5000 gallons of gas or diesel weighs about 40,000 pounds or so so your gross will probably be abouty 75,000 pounds going down the road. Brakes work ? Tires inflated ? Placards and MSDS as required ? Placarded trucks are definetely bear bait thesed days.
Grease is cheap, parts cost money. Air is free and tires are not. most problems with loose hardware and u hoint failures on 809 series truc s seem to involve the shaft between the transmission and the transfer case.
Try adjusting it first especially if you have little or no freeplay in the pedal. If you cannot get the clevis pin through the adjusting clevis becase the rod is in the way then there is not enough meat on the clutch for further adjustment. You run the clevis up the rod to compensate for wear in...
Don't forget to read the instructions in the TMs for any trailers you use: to hook the air lines up to the back of the truck for a drawbar trailer wheither they are color coded or not it is necessary to cross them over: the air line on the right side of the trailer hooks up to the left side of...
there is a ration established for cable v, block @ 12:1. So a .5 inch cable needs a 6
inch sheave, .75 = 9 inch and so on. Then you get to decide if you want multiple sheaves and beckets etc.
